Very picturescue building and garden but the welcome was sadly lacking The board outside lured us in advertising their "rocky" scone cream teas. We were served by someone who did not appear to be happy in her job. The pot of tea, cups saucers, jam, cream and very dry scones were left on the counter without a smile or instruction that the... We went for a long walk with our dog last week from Lynton to the Valley of the Rocks. Around lunchtime we were starting to panic as we were hungry and hadn't come across any pubs or cafes, then we spotted Mother Meldrums in the distance. The café is in a idyllic spot with a pretty garden. There was a... More

Enjoyed a cup of tea and a (rather large) slice of cherry pie. This is a really good place to visit. All the facilities that we needed together with lovely food that really did seem to be "Home Cooked"

Found by chance on a walk. Only stayed for tea/coffee and a snack, but all was very good and the range of other food appeared to be extensive and looked great. Very pleasant staff too. We sat in the beautiful garden over-looking the Valley of the Rocks. Will return if only to try the pies which looked wonderful.

The food here is plentiful - the chips (fries) are to die for! I have re-visited several times and had everything from ham/egg/chips to Ploughmans and salads. All has been fresh, well presented and cooked. Parties can be catered for if booked in advance (ours was 14 people). Don't expect fast food, this is English-not-pre-prepped at its best.

A fantastic welcome for walkers - we were lucky to sit outside in glorious sunshine on two occasions whilst on our circular walks in the area. We drank tea and ate delicious cakes - the lemon drizzle cake was just adorable. The service friendly and efficient. The walled garden an oasis amongst the bleakness at The Valley of the Rocks... As you walk in, all the lovely cakes and other bakes are there for you to see. We opted for the Clotted Cream Tea. This comprised a large bowl filled with scoops of very thick Clotted cream, another filled with home-made Jam, and two very large scones each. The art of proper scone baking is generally lost, but is still alive... We called into Mother Meldrums yesterday and found the cafe to be very expensive and in dire need of refurbishment, due to the cold wind the garden was out so all patrons crammed themselves into the back room. This room seem to lack direction, it's neither cosy or comfortable, the tables are far too being fro the room and navigating... More

Popped in for lunch. Their food is fabulous; nothing fancy but simple, delicious, homemade meals. We had a wonderful lasagne, just like my mum used to make!
