Stopped here for a couple of pints, good selection of beers & drinks. Slightly pricy but good seating indoors and outdoors if in groups.

Great time trying to decipher the clues in the mystery room. Host Gabriel was a delight and rescued us when our collective brains failed! Hope you're not afraid of the dark!!

Nice decor with a pretty garden. Good range of drinks and gets very busy. Staff are a mixed bunch - some good fast service whilst others are more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than servingMore

Hi Jamie, I'm glad you like our garden! We love our little sun trap in summer! I am, however, sorry to hear that you had such a mixed experience from our staff. This certainly doesn't match the standard of service we expect and will be...More

Loads of people but still room to sit down to have a drink. It was a chilly night but we weren't cold because of the heat lamps outside. Also live music was very nice.

Only awarding one star because it's the minimum you can do! Totally disappointed in this place- booked 2 weeks ago before 10 of us due to visit as part of the London to Brighton Bike Race. Spoke with staff couple of times before our pre...More

Thank you for leaving a review. Please let me offer my heartfelt apologies for this. We had our busiest weekend on record, and were let down by one of our main suppliers, with no alternative food suppliers available (as it was a Sunday) - however...More

Shame the minimum is one as I personally don't think this place is worth that. Bar staff are more interested in talking to one another and the guy behind the bar seemed like his batteries were flat ! Waited over 20 Mind to be served...More

Hi there, thank you for the review. As you mentioned, you did visit during the Great Escape and Alternative Escape music festival, where a large majority of the pubs and venues in Brighton host live music acts for the weekend. We do not normally have...More

Description
Here at The Black Lion, we aim to be the best at everything we do... And we do a lot!! From a fantastic restaurant serving food until 10pm (9.30Pm Thursday, 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays) to a consistently busy late night bar... And everything in between!! ... The Black Lion is all about live music, served up 6 days a week. Up-and-coming local bands, live and authentic Blues, swinging live Jazz Sundays, Brighton's most popular Funk and Soul bands - right through to renowned names on the DJ circuit... We've got the lot! ... Our fantastic DJs have a simple brief: "keep 'em smiling, make 'em dance" We play anything from Northern Soul, Motown, Funk, Rock & Roll, Ska, Mod Revival, Indie, Reggae and Old School Hip Hop... It's a fairly eclectic blend, but we find it attracts lots of the right kind of people, and they seem happy when they stumble out at 3am. ... On Sundays we're the 'Live & Swingin' Lion' - our in-house band plays a rotating mix of gypsy jazz, swing, blues, soul and funk. Serving fantastic home-cooked roasts all evening until they run out, as well as our full menu (advanced booking highly advised), we can't think of a more perfect end to the week. ... The Black Lion is fast becoming the go-to place for top-class, affordable cocktails in Brighton. With an extensive list made from quality, fresh ingredients, the best Bloody Marys in town, and weekly changing creations, you'll find something for every taste - always made with care and a flare by our inventive bar team.
