Travelled via train, to Brighton, just to eat lunch at Oki Nami. I visit Brighton a lot, and have walked by, stopped to look at the menu many times. I am really glad we visited to eat this time. Cheerful friendly staff, a choice of tables, help with the menu all plus points. No water offered, but a drinks order... More

Very small upstairs cocktail bar with eye-watering prices, but the drinks were fab (espresso martini in particular) and service really friendly. Went on a Saturday and unsurprisingly very busy, but seemingly there's a happy hour during weekdays with cocktails at a fiver each, sounds like great value.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunchtime meal here. Great favours and friendly staff. Would imagine it would be an atmospheric place in the evening too.

Compared with other cocktail bars in Brighton, I felt in view of cocktails on offer, taste and presentation was very average. There was no ambience, style, music very average dance bland, in fact nothing felt special about the place. It was my boyfriends birthday, we fancied having a couple of cocktails but left after one. I went to pay, we... More

Good points: The waiting staff were warm and welcoming. Bad points: The wait for food was long and arduous. The main courses were not worth the money. The dining room was freezing and I had to wear my coat. Food in general was quite bland . Basically everything about this place screamed 'average'. My main bugbear was that we were... More

I came here on a date with my boyfriend. We both love Japanese cuisine and it was brilliant here! The interior of the restaurant was not what we had expected, as the decor was simple (?) however the family who runs the business were very warm and nice. Service was brilliant and absolutely enjoyed the origami on the tables to... More

We treated ourselves to a lunchtime meal on a cold grey Valentine's day. The welcome was warm, but the interior was freezing! I think the minimal interior gave the impression that it was colder than it actually was, but all the customers were eating in their topcoats. Was the food good? Actually, it was excellent. The flavours were great. Its... More

I recently came to Oki-Nami for cocktails on Saturday for my birthday after my booking at another bar was cancelled which was very disappointing. I was pretty stressed as I had about 15 people coming for drinks and nowhere to go! The staff at the cocktail bar upstairs were brilliant. Although they were incredibly busy, they moved tables to accommodate... More

Good food, wide choice and friendly service. If you like Japanese food, then you can't go wrong here. We took 6 'tapas' dishes to share between the 2 of us - just about right, and still space for a lovely dessert ;-)

We visited for cocktails only before going on to eat elsewhere. They accomadated a big group of us despite not having booked and did excellent cocktails - can highly recommend the bar for cocktails!

Description
This classically kooky, Tokyo-esque Japanese restaurant and delicatessen on the New Road in Brighton is the brainchild of acclaimed chef Mike Dodd and DJ Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim. With a minimialist, contemporary interior featuring handmade oak furniture, caliigraphy clad lanterns and an exclusive soundtrack tailor made by Cook, Oki-Nami has become a hit with local sushi connoisseurs, hipsters and Japanophiles. Located near the Theatre Royal opposite the Pavillion Gardens, Oki-Nami restaurant is renowned for its award-winning sushi; Japanese tapas; main courses such as the Suzuki Saffron sea bass served with a citrus sauce; desserts including the restaurant's famous green tea ice cream; and east-meets-west cocktails such as the Japanese Cherry Blossom Margarita.
