To me this was a bog standard food offering. It was average, its a great location and the staff are lovely but the food is just OK and nothing more.

This is you standard curry house - standard decor, standard food. It's an ok place to drop in for a curry and has quite a cosy feel, even though it's quite large. Our problem was that the service was so poor. No one was really looking, which meant I had to shout out in a loud voice twice during the... More

My brother and I have been eating at The Viceroy of India two or three times a year for the past six years. We find the food to be so delicious that, although we always leave satiated, we still wish we could eat more! By the time we return, we've forgotten what we ate on our previous visit so we... More

We were in Brighton just before Christmas and fancied an Indian meal. We picked one which had some people in. The service was good and the food nice but not amazing.

A place where I've discovered the taste of India. Very good food, well prepared with fast and good service. Surprisingly always empty so no problems with free table (but I always worry how long they may survive with no customers?). Prices reasonable. Order Peshwari naan - delicious. I even took it with me home - only 1000 km :)

The food was standard Indian food at inflated prices, one waiter constantly walked up and down wheezing and humming the other looked as though his shirt had'nt been changed in days, ( this one we didnt see until half way through our meal). the dinning area very cold.

Rice was not warm, korma was like water, popadom not warm and nan was cold. Very disapointed as when I eat in was very good. More effort needed on takeaways.

Directly off the main road along the Brighton seafront, Preston Street is dominated by restaurants. When in the mood for a traditional Indian, locals step into the smart yet informal Viceroy of India where traditional red carpets, dark velvet banquette seating and hand-printed scenes of ancient Calcutta life are matched with modern white linen-dressed tables and dark wood chairs. An extensive menu lists several korai, tandoori balti and masala specialties. On week days there's a calm atmosphere when the contented murmur rarely rises above the ethnic background music. Nights bring bit more of a buzz. Diners are a mixture of couples, families and business people. Sit at a window table, if possible.
