Not yer ordinary Fish 'n' Chips, this. This is reet proper, pukka seaside food, a good notch above the norm. The service is very very efficient. Nice clean and crispy batter, good choice of fish, chippychips and lashings of tea in mugs.

Went to Hastings for the day and just fancied a quick breakfast snack, thought we would try this place. It was tight seating inside, hate to see it busy. We only had two Teas, mushrooms on toast and a bacon 'n' egg sandwich. Cheap bread, naff mushrooms, small egg, one slice of bacon. However a good strong mug of tea... More

We were at Hastings for the day, and when at the Coast, you have to have Fish & Chips ! This time we tried the Mermaid Café. The sizes were Medium / Large / Double. Fortunately, we ordered Medium. When it came up, there were 2 pieces of Fish, with Chips on the plate. I also had Bread & Butter,... More

Looking for somewhere to have breakfast on a late Sunday morning. Was going to go to Eat@ the Stade, but couldn't park nearby, so decided to park down Rock-a-Nore Road. Found a spot directly outside the café and with a load of bikers sitting out front, it caught our eye. We went in and ordered their Standard breakfast, with a... More

On the half a dozen or so occasions that I have visited Hastings I have always enjoyed fantastic fresh from the sea fish and chips at the Mermaid. It's always been worth walking past so many other places,to eat here. Fish and chips at The Mermaid has always been the highlight of a visit to Hastings. Today was the first... More

Brought take away fish and chips here to eat on the beach. cost about £8 for a portion. Was enough to feed myself and my 5 year old. Tasty. Quite expensive and quite average.

We went for lunch at the Mermaid Cafe, following a recommendation in our travel guide. Naturally, as tourists, we opted for the Fish and Chips, but were very disappointed, as the dish was completely different from what our guide had promised. It was way too fatty and the fries and peas had obviously been frozen. The fish was tasteless and... More

First we saw the 5 hygiene rating and that this was the busiest restaurant around, so grabbed a table. we had the medium cod and chips for 3 and they were simply the best that we have ever had. Perfectly crispy batter and chips and firm fish. The other pleasant surprise was coffee in a mug. No fancy frills or... More

Myself and my family have been coming to the mermaid for years! We never see the same member of staff twice but service is always great and the cod is the best I've tasted. Would highly recommend this little restaurant, you won't be disappointed 5***

We were in Hastings for a walk along the beach and decided to drop into the Mermaid for fish and chips after the walk. We hadn't been to the Mermaid for a while but can confirm that it's still as good as ever. Can't beat sitting watching a stormy sea from the warmth of the car with probably the best... More
