Stopped at The Mermaid last Friday and enjoyed the best meal ever...everything excellent..dining room, service, food and wine all superb. Considering that they were hosting a large function at the same time, it was truly remarkable. We chose the local Romney Marsh lamb for the main...very impressed. This is certainly fine dining and I'll definitely return. Considering the location, level... More

Dinner in the Mermaid is case of the chef trying too hard. The produce is fine, the dishes too fussy with diced this, shredded that and micro this and that. Better that they concentrated on training their staff, having a choice of bread and improving the choice.

Good food, service okay, surroundings spectacular but main complaint is the bar,bar was taken over by maybe 7 people all surrounding the big fire, barmaid unfriendly and didn't really seem that interested in her job or what type of service she is paid to provide - we had one drink after the meal and left feeling unwanted - Management - if you want... We met a friend for lunch at the Mermaid Inn and as previously we were impressed with the very attentive service. The menu is always interesting and varied with options to mix and match between the a la carte and the bar menu. I started with the venison scotch egg which was delicious and the traditional fish and chips. We... More
