The Mermaid Inn has a lovely restaurant. The Chef gave us a complimentary celeriac frothy soup to begin with which was unusual and tasted great. I have had the lamb and the pork here for mains and they are both beautifully present and taste great. The sharing dessert is a must. Well worth a visit.

we booked to dine here literally a week before we arrived in Rye and was expecting a table perhaps tucked away but this turned out to be the opposite albeit we were in small dining area, the atmosphere and food and service were all excellent. my Scallops were outstanding and my other half's braised cheeks were the best he'd eaten.... The service is just so nice we had a wonderful time. I'd recommend the Scallops, the Quail looked really good and is unique, and the lamb nice too. Cheeses lovely. Wine was decent and very reasonable. And everyone here is really just so nice. The ambiance is charming and classic. The Mermaid Inn is like 900 years old, so they... More

Drinks with good friends - lovely atmospheres must should you be in the neighborhood! Historic from 1400's huge open log fire which is welcoming all!

I always would make The Mermaid Inn a stop for a a drink (or a pub meal) in its picturesque bar. While the restaurant is fine, none of us were impressed with the food. If you are planning on getting a pint in a few bars, the nearby Standard is quite fun also.

This evocative,Tudor room is a cosy setting for the Mermaid's fine cuisine, but don't be intimidated by the portraits glaring down on you as you dine! The menu is excellent with an interesting choice of wines. We love the Mermaid Inn and anyone visiting from the States will find it a wonderland of old England. It is a bit out... More

Thank you for your review. The Linen Fold Panelled Restaurant is a wonderfully decorated restaurant. The decoration was painted by The Slade School of Art in the 1920s, following patterns from a previous era, plus a wall fresco that dates from much earlier. The perfect place to dine and create memories. We look forward to welcoming you again in the... More

We took lunch in the restaurant which was smart and comfortable in a beautifully timbered original building. The food was excellent and the service attentive. Recommended as a special treat.

Stopped at The Mermaid last Friday and enjoyed the best meal ever...everything excellent..dining room, service, food and wine all superb. Considering that they were hosting a large function at the same time, it was truly remarkable. We chose the local Romney Marsh lamb for the main...very impressed. This is certainly fine dining and I'll definitely return. Considering the location, level... More

Dinner in the Mermaid is case of the chef trying too hard. The produce is fine, the dishes too fussy with diced this, shredded that and micro this and that. Better that they concentrated on training their staff, having a choice of bread and improving the choice.
