Very stylish restaurant at the heart of Rye. Excellent service from well trained, experienced and attentive staff. We both ordered the Fish and Chorizo Stew which was superbly cooked and very tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely eat there again.

I'd booked this based on a listing on the Scallop festival website but sadly the special menu wasn't on offer. We made do with a scallop ceviche starter and then the scallop and roasted cauliflower and labneh main. These were delicious as was my partners cod and excellent chips. The wait staff seemed disorganised but well meaning each person seemed... More

We had a swift early evening meal at The George (having been several times before) and can not fault it. The quality of the food is first rate. I had the oysters and Linguine Vongole; both were delicious. The children's fish and chips was also so well done.

I so wanted the food and service to match the ambience but it failed. Food bland, burnt flat bread, lacking flavour. Service was robotic and we were told main menu stopped at 3pm and we had 3 minutes to order at 2.50pm!!??!! No reason to return!

We visited for a drink, which eventually became dinner, stunning surroundings, staff attentive and reasonably priced! Large choice of drinks from the bar and restaurant. Back when we are in town again!

Booked for 6pm on Valentine's Day as there were no later times left available. When they rand in advance to confirm the booking they said they would email an updated menu through but never did. When we arrived our table wasn't ready and they had to set it up not even in the proper restaurant area and squashed into a... More

Have been to the grill on numerous occasions, where the food is usually good. I had afternoon cream tea with scones, jam and cream. Really delicious.

Was staying here and had a £50 credit to meal. Starters were very good. I had scallops and black pudding and wife had salt and pepper squid. No complaints on either both chose well. However my dover sole was a little small and had spent a little too long under the grill. would have been better with a buerre blanc... More

Stayed in the hotel & are in the grill. Nice selection of sea food, beautifully cooked. I had oysters to start which were fresh but perhaps opened a little in advance as were slightly drying around the edges. Good wine selection including local producers. Service outstanding. I made an error with my breakfast order & they fixed it immediately with... More

Visited twice just for drinks. Good service. A big selection of Kent bubbles and a huge gin menu. Reasonably priced. A little cold in the bar, could definitely use an open/real fireplace going in winter! Good for relaxing. Would go back to try the food

The George Grill and our bar, The George Tap, are temples of all day dining, serving a modern European menu with a sunny, Mediterranean slant.

At the heart of the kitchen is a Josper wood-charcoal grill, where our kitchen team, led by Robert Wright fast-cook seafood just caught from Rye Bay, local meats and vegetables.

The George Tap offers a large range of wine by the glass, including those from vineyards in East Sussex and Kent.
