We stayed at the hotel for two nights and had a package that gave us two breakfasts and two dinners. The good: the second night we had a fabulous meal. It was the 7-course taster menu with excellent food, mainly good service, and lovely wine - we went with our own choice rather than the flight of wines. The young... More

We visited here on the 8th April (a belated Mothers day treat). We were booked in for Afternoon Tea which I love. There were 4 of us. It was a beautiful day so we were able to sit outside. It is the most amazing setting. Afternoon tea is not cheap, but you don't expect it to be here. Do you... More

It is a very impressive venue with lovely views. We went for an early birthday treat, so had the afternoon full tea. Followed by cocktails which I must say we're quite strong. We took our dogs with us, which were made very welcome. They were treated to spring water and doggy duck treats the staff were friendly and attentive, caring... More

Something felt wrong from the very start. There was no welcome and we were not ask for our name. We took nice seats in the lounge but it took an age for first drinks to come. Our table was booked for 7.45, but we were not seated until 8.30, after my wife went to find a waiter to ask if... More

Beautiful location and we called in impromptu for a quick sandwich lunch. It's very posh and the staff are very friendly - really, really quiet though so we ate our sandwiches in silence and left. It is what it is - very, very quaint and English. Do give it a whirl but definitely no noise!

A truly warm welcome from all of the staff, from the gentleman who parked the car, to the receptionist, bar staff and those in the restaurant. Calm music playing in the bar was a nice touch.Food amazing, different and interesting. The ingredients in our choice of meals were explained by the staff who clearly knew the menu and were knowledgeable without... More

Probably the worst meal I've had in decades. The seven course tasting menu showed no skill, artistry, taste or enjoyment. A Michelin star was claimed but not sure who's in the kitchen these days.

Dear OxfordBassAce, Your personal opinion is naturally one of which you are entitled to and we must publicly and graciously accept as we did in private and direct correspondence to you via email. Fortunately your opinion is not shared by many (if any?) and on the balance of recent reviews the Michelin Star is in good hands. Yours faithfully, Michael... More

Booked high tea as a birthday celebration. Nice ambience, welcoming, discrete service and a very acceptable plate of sandwiches and cakes, with a good choice of teas. Now it's on the radar, we'll plan to book for dinner on another occasion. The wine list looks very enticing!

Having treated me to a lovely Mothers Day lunch and afternoon a few years ago my son thought he would repeat the experience for my 67th birthday. It is always a difficult time as it is on the 13th Feb which obviously collides with Valentines celebrations. This time he chose Sunday lunch and looked carefully at the rather limited set... More
