I remember enjoying Bob Carver's fish and chips as a boy at Hull Fair and in the open market. Either my taste has changed or they are no longer the good fish and chips of old. Not all was bad: the haddock was very fresh and moist, the batter crisp. And it all looked promising on the plate. The chips... More

My wife and I love good fish and chips, that description does not fit what we had today. The restaurant was cold, the fish and chips were disgusting, probably the worst I have ever tasted, swimming in grease refried cold chips, cold mushy peas. DONT BOTHER, please go elsewhere.

Walked out. Worst place. Dirty. Disgusting. Re-fried chips, fish was off. Grim. Do NOT go, ever!! We didn't get a refund, and wasted £27 on the order, which we all only had one mouth full. Truly terrible!!

Where to begin. I ate in. Ordered Haddock and chips. Swimming in grease, the oil was old and too hot so the batter was burnt. The fish survived just but the chips were disgusting- they used the wrong type of potato, too waxy which left the feeling of the chips being both over cooked and raw at the same time.... More

Decided to take my teenage daughter out to soak up some of the city of Culture vibe. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts at eating in Trinity Square we joined the queue for Carvers. The chips and fish were both cooked a little darker than I would ideally like them to be. Having the food picked up with bare hands... More

Went to the takeaway today and the chips were swimming in grease! The curry was not very nice at all and the sausage was dried up. I can safely say it went in the bin and I will never go again!

On a day trip to Hull went to the upstairs restaurant, which is very much traditionally styled with chandelier style lights, dark wooden furniture, dark red decor and plain white crockery. Service was a bit slow but extremely friendly and cheery. Having scoured the menu in vain for a vegetarian option for my daughter, we discovered that the Patties are... More

During a recent visit to the lovely city of Hull to recapture childhood memories with my elderly mother we planned to return to Bob Carver's restaurant. Arriving at lunch time to the empty restaurant, there were no visible staff, we sat and waited for a waitress. My mother requested a child's portion and was informed that she could have a... More
