Our second visit, and the first since their expansion into the next door premises. It was really excellent again, delicious food, beautifully presented, by attentive staff. Much of the food is local and all crafted with care, down to the moreish bread made with local...beer accompanied by homemade butter.More

Visited here several times with my husband and everything is just perfect each time. Visited with friends last night and once again we weren’t disappointed. Food, staff, cocktails, wine, atmosphere, decor all perfect. Well worth a visit if you are in Ambleside but book ahead.

3rd time and still amazing. Still the best valued Michelin starred meal you’ll find anywhere. Great service and lovely to see the same faces over the years. Incredible food with a crab dish this time which was outstanding!

I've been to many of the top restaurants in the U.S., including Jose Andres's Mini Bar in Washington, DC, The Inn at Little Washington in Washington, VA, Restaurant Fjord in Oslo, and Nisch in Stockholm. This was one of the best five meals I've ever...had. Great service, a romantic atmosphere, and the owners spending time with the diners make this fine, intimate restaurant a gem.More

Simply out of this world. Have long known about Ryan's place and been meaning to try it. With our daughter away in Germany for a school trip we took advantage of free time and booked a couple of nights in the lakes as a treat,...including a booking here. The place is small, quaint and cosy, but doesn't feel cluttered and the table spacing was great and comfortable. Front of house service and in fact service throughout from waiters and the Sommelier were all superb, friendly and charming. Sitting down we were given a wax sealed envelope containing a menu, a personalised letter from the chef and several pages about every course, why he had put them together and what they represented. A wonderful touch which I have read and re-read now many times. As for the food, what followed was a set of exceptional dishes from the smaller 'amuse bouche' plates through to fuller plates of food covering most bases. Lot's of very nicely chosen local ingredients and impeccably cooked (and even more impeccably presented). We paired our meal with the reasonably priced wine flight which was also superb and worked wonderfully with each dish. Highlights for me were the hoggett in consomme and the potted shrimps in mead veloute, but they were all superb. When our lamb main was served this was presented by the head chef himself, and not just with a 'hello' - a proper warm northern welcome that turned into quite a long chat - he is clearly a very nice chap and loves talking about his food. We loved that part. It all came together in what was a very memorable evening that I would love to do again. Honestly, this place is a gem - I couldn't fault it. Short selection of photos below - they were all good though!More

Best. Meal. Ever. Since seeing this place on Tom Kerridge's TV show, we were desperate to go, and we couldn't rate it highly enough. The restaurant itself is cosy and welcoming, reflecting the environment of The Lake District. We loved the letter on the table...which explained what we were going to be eating, from the sourcing of the ingredients to the way the dishes were prepared. Every course was perfection, from the beetroot macarons with duck liver paté, to the crab cannelloni, to the Morecambe bay shrimp, to the arctic char, to the roe deer. Even the beer bread was delicious. Each dish was presented beautifully, and the main course was served by chef, which gave us a great opportunity to chat with him and give him our compliments personally. We felt that the lunch menu was very reasonable, and we can't wait to go back. Thank you Ryan and team for an unforgettable experience.More

Well, what can I say ? This restaurant, staff and food are excellent. We were having a break in the Lake District and I booked this back in January. We were certainly not disappointed. It is a smart, but not stuffy restaurant. Very accommodating and...knowledgeable on the food they cook and where it comes from. The taster menu was absolutely mouth watering. They also offer a wine pairing for each course. Sadly I was on medication so they offered me a non alcoholic version. To be honest I think I actually preferred it. Each different drink, complemented the course so well, whoever put it together was extremely clever. I only wish this restaurant was nearer to me as I would be regular visitor. I will certainly book again if we are planning another trip.More

This restaurant is a triumph in every sense of the world. Great service, ambience and food to die for. Every dish is considered, every dish shows of what Cumbria has to offer and what it's known for. The Artic Char dish is absolutely star of...the show. The cheese offering post dinner is great for those with healthy appetites and room in trousers to spare. This could easily be a two star, I think it's only a matter of time.More

We were all delighted by our trip to the Old Stamp House. We hadn't known what to expect but every course was delicious and beautifully constructed - each was a little piece of artwork in itself. My party had some food intolerances which were deftly...accommodated without fuss. The staff were so attentive and we were delighted when Ryan, the proprieter and head chef, brought out one course and explained the dish to us. We also found the letter you receive at the beginning talking you through every dish and where your food came from a super touch. We will definitely go again and will recommend to everyone we know.More

I think it has 3 separate rooms which each hold just a few tables so feels small and intimate, the staff were really good and helpful, food was outstanding, the potted shrimp course was perfect. Definitely recommend it.
