Being a huge Swallows and Amazons fan, my initial disappointment at not being able to book a cottage at Bank Ground Farm, the setting for Holly Howe in the book, was overcome when I found out that the farm runs a tearoom allowing non-residents to enjoy the views and atmosphere. As such, I persuaded my family to get up early... More

Went here after boating on Coniston Water. We were originally planning to go to the Bluebird Cafe next to the Boating Centre but it was packed. I am so glad it was, because we got to visit the Swallows & Amazons tearoom instead. This fitted perfectly, having just been on the lake where Swallows and Amazons was inspired and planning... More

This tearoom is off the road between Coniston and Brantwood, and not very clearly marked. Although it was once a farm, it appears to have been an inn more recently. Arthur Ransome apparently stayed here when he was writing Swallows and Amazons, but the history wasn't clearly shown, and was obtained from the very informative waitress. Even in October, it... A little off the beaten track this was a great surprise when looking for afternoon tea. A delightful location sitting on the terrace, the service was very good as was the tea. Certainly worth a visit is looking for tea in the area.

Walked from Coniston village round the head of the lake and had a lovely lunch at Bank Ground. Returned 2 days later for a fabulous evening meal.

We stayed at Bank Ground farm and were very pleased to find there were sufficient bookings for them to be open for dinner. The menu was just right for a small restaurant although some of the items were very limited availability. The service was excellent. We started with a game terrine which was beautifully presented and tasted as good as... More

This is a unique tearoom in a unique location. Food is well cooked, presented to a high standard and served by charming, friendly staff. The views from the tea rooms are awe inspiring. A really special place.

We had tea and scones here after finding the place by accident. Allegedly the building where Swallows and Amazons was written - it has good views of the lake and the walk down to it is fine. Seating outside is limited as the area is shared with other properties. The self service nature of the scones / cakes was a... More

Description
The Swallows and Amazons Tearoom & Farm Shop/Restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We serve light as well as hearty keep warm meals, homemade cakes, luxury ice cream and hot & cold drinks. We also have a great selection of wine and local Lake District ale for you to enjoy with your meal. The view from the tearoom and beer garden across the lake are sensational, it is no surprise that Bank Ground Farm inspired Arthur Ransome to write Swallows and Amazons during one of his stays. Easily accessible to both cyclists and mountain bikers. Many of Grizedale's routes run close by, so come and boost your energy levels and have a light lunch and cake! Bank Ground is on the edge of the lake, opposite the village of Coniston, so you can even arrive by boat! With a footpath on our doorstep, we are also accessible to walkers too, a mere 25 minute walk from the centre of Coniston! The restaurant is open in the evenings, however it is essential to book in advance as we are not open every evening. Occasionally we host events so please check our website to make sure we are open and avoid disappointment.
