My husband and I were looking for somewhere to have a light bite and a drink on a hot day. We ordered an Earl Grey tea with lemon, a cappuccino, a cheese scone served with cheese and chutney and a large sausage roll- warmed. We...sat at the table outside and waited and waited and waited. When I went into the cafe and asked when our order would arrive I was told”we are very busy you’ll have to wait”. A couple of minutes later the drinks arrived. The cappuccino was fine but the tea was served with milk no lemon. Was told “we don’t have lemon”. Cheese scone arrived with a slice of cheese so thin if you sneezed it would have blown away. The warmed sausage roll was stone cold and rock hard. Avoid this place. It’s run for the convenience of the staff not the customers.More

We called in around lunchtime and ordered soup and cheese scone, tea for one and a “home baked bread roll” containing cheese and chutney. The soup was £6.25 and was a small serving. The big shock was the cheese roll. This was accompanied by six...crisps and the cost was £5.99. I commented on this to staff and was given the reply that the prices are shown. What wasn’t shown was the meagre portion.More

We found the staff in the upstairs tearoom pleasant and efficient. The decor is attractive but at the end of the day it’s a tea shop so we were pretty shocked to be charged nearly £17 for two coffees and two cakes. We’ve had the...same in 4 and 5 star hotels and paid less.More

Sorry it just wasn’t worth the money. £43 for an afternoon tea for two. It was absolutely nothing special and the staff seemed annoyed. They must have told us three times they were short staffed. I understand staffing issues arise, and we said it wasn’t...a problem as we were in no rush. We waited hoping it would be worth the wait. I felt a bit like we were an imposition, like they were annoyed we’d even come in. The price didn’t reflect either the food or the service in my opinion. The ambience was nice and the seating comfortable. It was nice that they allowed us to take the leftovers away in a box. To end on a positive!More

Went for lunch with family and sat outside as we had our dog with us. Menu was limited but we all chose something. Daughter wanted a steak pie but they had sold out (at noon!) so had a cornish pasty instead which she said was...OK. Husband had a jacket with cheese & tuna - tuna was put on first so cheese had no chance to melt. I had a cheese & chutney sandwich (per the menu) which turned out to be a fairly dry brown bap with a sliver of cheese, no salad or crisps etc on the side, and a tiny amount of chutney. Very disappointing. We'd had to pay at point of order so nothing we could do. Had opted against cakes as saw lots of flies in the cabinets... gross.More

Wish we’d never gone into the place Rude, arrogant staff Paid to eat in, and no seats available downstairs, we ventured upstairs only to find that upstairs was… “more expensive” and despite having paid to eat inside, we could not sit down - none of...this was clear to the customers until too late. DON’T GO UPSTAIRS - YOU ARE INFERIOR!!!More

Popped in for a quick cake and a drink. The menu was massively overpriced and the quality of the food was terrible. The Scone was more like a roll, far too thick. The chocolate brownies were hard all the way through and the chocolate eclair...was hard. That with a pot of tea and a couple of kids drinks cost nearly £25. ShockingMore

I would be embarrassed to serve what they served. Tuna and pesto sandwich in a dry brown bread bun with one piece of lettuce and still looking for the pesto! Cheese scone which may has well have been a plain one. Fruit scone no comment....Avoid this placeMore

Everytime I'm in the lakes I make a special trip to Brysons in Keswick to buy 4 Battenburg cakes to take home. They are or should I say were the best I have ever had . Not anymore, they are covered in what appears to...be a sugar paste ?? With little or no taste of marzipan whatsoever.More

Pleasant enough spot for lunch, food ok, just incredibly crowded and a bit chaotic, seats too close together and all a bit cramped. Nice cakes.

Treat on the last day of our week in Keswick. Great friendly service, tasty meals. Enormous portions, as usual! A little pricey but I can’t say we didn’t enjoy it! Look forward to coming back next year.

Service is really poor. Prices high, quality meh. Scone was flat and serviced with prepackaged clotted cream and cheap jam.
