Stopped in for a late lunch and we had a wonderful homemade soup. Served with hearty bread it was a perfect meal. Had a great dessert too. One drawback is that you have to pay for parking but if you are visiting Mire House or the Park, it's a great stop.

An lovely little tearoom, home cooked food, a perfect way to finish the climb/walk up Skiddaw, limited menu but what they do serve is just right fine for where they are.

My wife and I are NT and HHA ( rejoined again this year £75...visited 16 properties so far) members and was visiting Mirehouse and Gardens but noticed The Old Sawmill Teashop when parking in the car park. We shared the speciality of 1/2 lb Cumberland Sausage in baguette with mustard and salad (£7.50 excellent). Date slice (lovely) and a pot... More

Went in as no change for the car park (which didn't give change/accept cards/phone in). Average prices I thought til I realised we'd been charged 80p each for 2 very small kids orange squash. Cakes were nice, coffee OK. Tearoom looked quaint but staff serving seemed sullen with little people skills. Handy for the area but I'd only go back... More

All round excellent venue. Secure parking whilst attempting any number of brilliant walks (including Skiddaw), clean toilet facilities, dog-friendly outside seating area, friendly staff and a good menu that emphasises local produce. The warm cheese scones with Northumberland nettle cheese & homemade chutney was truly outstanding and the lemon meringue pie would surely make Mary Berry smile! Lashings of tea... More

Visited this little hidden gem whilst on a lap of Dodd wood when visiting the lakes the other week. What a surprise this stunning little cafe turned out to be. A real proper rustic tea shop, none of this modern fancy la de dah. A place that welcomes wet walkers and muddy boots ready to supply proper home made food... More

Lovely location and easy access from the car park. Tasty freshly prepared food and good tea and coffee with reasonable prices. Visited before and will visit again.

Best mid-walk lunch! Something for everyone. Best quiche I've ever had. After a family walk up Dodd to see the Ospreys (takes ages with a lazy 2 yr old) we stopped in the Sawmill for lunch. Quick service, reasonable prices, and amazing food. I had quiche which was truly stunning, husband had sausage in a roll which was gigantic and... More

We stopped here after doing the summit walk. My husband had the walnut and Stilton salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had cheese scone with nettle cheese which was delicious. The tea was just perfect. Highly recommend.

Management response:

We have been in contact with Allerdale Environmental Health about this incident. After confirming our cooking and hygiene procedures we were informed they are not treating it as food poisoning from food from our tearoom as the incubation period from the customers visit to us to hospitalisation did not match. We are glad to confirm we have, and have had... More
