Tried to visit on New Years Eve but closed at 8 pm and not opened again until 13th January. Visited previously for a meal and drinks but does not seem to keep regular opening hours.

Came across this handily placed pub after doing a walk around the base of catbells. Great selection of real ales and friendly bar staff. Definitely worth a refreshment stop 😃

This pub is mainly an eatery with depressing brown tables in rows laid out as in the morning to 80's. The decor is not welcoming. Imitation log fire that gives off no heat and just glows red. The bar has a few chairs and is unwelcoming. The beer was off and had to be returned. The bar staff were smart... More

We visited this pub on Saturday evening after arriving in Portinscale for a weeks holiday. A party of 6, we were unable to book a table, as we were told reservations can only be made for 8 or more people. We arrived around 6:30pm to find the pub really busy and all tables taken. We received a warm welcome and... More

Just had dinner here, wish we'd found it last night. We both had Yorkshire Pudding with very tender beef, red cabbage, potato mash & peas. Very satisfying!

I visited the Farmers Arms on two evenings on my recent mid-Sept 2016 visit to Portinscale for a few beers after a busy day on the Cumbrian Fells. It's a really very pleasant traditional real English pub with a good range of real ales, including splendid Jennings ales and various guest beers. The new owners were both very welcoming, very... We visited as a group of 10 for lunch. We were appalled at the rude behaviour of the woman who served us, it was clear we weren't welcome as soon as we arrived as we were a big group of young people. The lady who served us came to our table and practically threw placemats at us asking us to... More
