The view is amazing and its an excellent place to stop for a comfort break. The staff were freindly and we had a window view. The tables were clean but I noticed the chairs made of cloth needed a good clean. The late ☕ was like warmed up milk couldnt taste any coffee and my husbands black coffee was poor... More

An excellent cafe on the tortuous route between Penrith and Alston. There is a spectacular view across the northern end of the Eden Valley to the Lake District beyond.

Popped in here after a lovely bike ride over the Hartside pass. Its quite popular but everyone seemed to have some where to sit. This is a basic cafe with basic decoration but is comfortable, has amazing views and does what it says on the tin! The food is average to good and great value. Its somewhere to take five... More

We were taking the long way to the Lakes on this lovely spring day. We knew that we could stop at Hartside if no other wayside establishment had grabbed our attention. I am gluten free and sadly they had nothing on offer for me. But I did try an enormous piece of quiche and left the pastry. My husband sweet... More

We called in for a bacon butty and a mug of tea last Sunday. The staff were very pleasant, the place was clean, the view was stunning, but, the bacon in the sandwiches was abysmal and tasteless. The bread buns broke up, so the four of us left the food virtually uneaten. A little extra care in the procurement of... More

Whilst on a walking holiday in the Alston area, my family called in at Hartside for a drink and a snack. We enjoyed a selection of meat and potato pie, steak pie and a generous ham salad bun. The pot of tea hit the spot. We sat outside in the hot sunshine (March ! ) and enjoyed the fantastic views... More

Despite reading a several negative reviews of Hartside Cafe on TripAdvisor, we went ahead with our planned meet of Lotus owners. Personally, I found a clean, tidy, well run cafe. I enjoyed a splendid, good value, bacon and egg butty with a mug of tea. It was served up by pleasant, helpful staff in next to no time. The cafe was... More

Such a great drive to this fantastic spot up pops the Hartside Cafe. Afternoon was so cold the day we dropped in, place was nice and warm and the view is great but unfortunately that is about as far as we can recommend. Shame the operators don't realize what they have

Stopped for a cup of tea at this place. Immediately upon entry an overwhelming smell of rancid burning fat hits the nostrils. Within minutes it was in our clothes and hair and had we not ordered and paid for the tea, we would have left immediately. I can further confirm that the tea was possibly the worst ever encountered at... More
