Lunch time meeting, one of us had the set lunch menu the other a la carte. Have been an admirer of Mr Hix's articles in the sadly deceased Independent and was loking forward to his cooking. But I found it no better than good gastro pub food with small portions: one small lamb cutlet for the set meal and the... More

Sat at the bar for a few drinks but then decided to stay for dinner. Loved the buratta and the pork with noodles. A good buzz in the reataurant and very friendly and knowledgeable stafff. Was here a few months ago and enjoyed but this experience was even better.

Quite different from Hicks other establishments. Far more paired back and original. Quite tight seating though. So the meat here is first class which you would expect given the prices and Smithfield location. Service however on this occasion was lousy. Kept having to get up and ask for things at the bar, you know wine, knife, mustard a menu. The... More

Nowadays you visit many restaurants which do not match the food and service to the price they charge - well this place gets it right on. Great food and service at a great price. Keep up the good work

Good food both fish and meat dishes chosen. Friendly service and a nice touch with truffles for the birthday being celebrated - will return for sure.

Did not try the oysters but went for a split pea and has soup (terrific), a sirloin steak with their various sauces (loved it even though I am not a big meat eater) and some sides of fries (of course) and broccoli di rape (cooked perfectly). The wine list is well constructed and the prices reasonable. Great place to eat... More

Went there for dinner with friends. Food was good, but not spectacular and slightly overpriced. Nevertheless a good evening!

Had a lovely quick lunch at Hix today. Hanger steak was excellent and it came with a daring (for London) grilled marrow on the bone. Delicious.

Wow. Just wow. I ended up eating all the oysters as my friend was too squeamish. Possibly the most delicious food in London. Everything was so tasty - every single mouthful. It was pretty expensive but kind of worth it.

Third time we have been here. Sunday lunch this time. The food is incredible, we tried most of the starters and the oysters. Sublime food. The service is fantastic and the venue does not feel crowded even when full

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
