The Pig and Goose at the George is mistakenly described as a gastropub. True it is a restaurant in a pub but this is a serious restaurant with chefs who mean business. The food is traditional British cuisine done exceptionally well. The crispy pigs head...More

We had meal in the downstairs bar, excellent choice of draught beers and craft beers. Very friendly atmosphere all round. Good food, probably the best fish and chips! Prices on the average. I really suggest to try it!

Having read the many positive reviews on food and service, I booked lunch for two people midweek, and we weren't disappointed! Arriving to a very friendly greeting, we were promptly seated and drinks orders taken. The menu had some great options available, based on seasonality,...More

The Pig & Goose restaurant (upstairs level of The George) is well worth a visit for great food, but in a slightly more relaxed environment than other similar standard places. Food was very inventive and extremely tasty and service very good. Fairly quiet for a...More

Hi MandEm622, As per the previous responses, I can confirm that you would be more than welcome to just have a pint and some fish and chips in the pub on the ground floor. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

The George underwent an extensive and considerate refurbishment of the ground floor bar and first floor dining room. This saw the creation of an elegant and sophisticated restaurant; The Pig and Goose and a private dining room. The stunning Pig & Goose restaurant, lounge bar and oak panelled private dining room is on the first floor of The George, where we serve classic British food for both lunch and dinner daily, with a 90 bin wine list that focuses on Old World classics, however, also showcases the very best in New World wines. We have a cheese trolley featuring 7 British cheeses to pair with our large range of ports, whiskies and brandies. The Pig and Goose is open to seated drinkers and diners daily.
