I hosted a business dinner for 9 last night. It is a small place and a tight fit. However, kudos to them for allowing me to change our reservation from 8 to 9 people 45 minutes prior. Attentive staff, and ahhh, the steak... as a regular visitor to London, I have tried many different places, and this was the best... More

We had Martini's and picked out our steaks. The appetizers were first rate and the steaks were aged and cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious and even the bred was great!!! This is a special night treat and worth every considerable penny!!!! Crowded in the best British way possible...LOL.

Went to dinner at the Guinea Grill a couple nights ago. It is an intimate, boardering on cramped space behind a pub in Mayfair. But that's the point. The place has been there in some form or another since the 15th century. The menu is classily British. Having seen "Sweeney Todd" back in the day put me off meat pies... More

A perfect retreat for a great food and good beer. A regular haunt since my first visit over 30 years ago and the really good news is nothing changes ... Perfection remains. Quite simply the best steaks on earth and a great ambiance to boot. Pure heaven.

This is a special place with a warm and friendly staff. It has a great British atmosphere. If you are a person who enjoys fine beef, pork, venison, and related items, then this is the place for you. It has an excellent wine list. I have only been here once but I think there are three distinct characteristics of this... More

My colleague and I always enjoy our lunches at The Guinea Grill. He has been coming here for over 15 years, which speaks volumes about the place. This is traditional English fare at its best and l cannot resist choosing the steak and mushroom pie every time we dine here. The service is discrete, exemplary and friendly and we always... More

We visited today for Sunday roast. We are working our way through Time Outs best roasts in London. This one was good... BUT - * Roast Potatoes - not hot enough and not enough. * We had the Chateaubriand for 2. Meat was good but it's served medium rare which might not be to everyone's tastes. * When we first... More

I have been to this place more times than I can remember. I have yet to have an experience that is not excellent. The pies are out of the top drawer and the steaks are fantastic. All this is accompanied by seamless service delivered by their wonderful staff.

Small, chaotic old bad quite pricey. It was depicted to me as one of the best place for steaks in London, I am very disappointed. Took a rump steak and trust me I never ate such a dry steak in all my life, tasteless, dry, over cooked on the outer part. I still believe you can find good steaks like... More

Fantastic beef and the full Guinea Grill is second to none. If you like traditional British food with great service and a first glass bottle of red, then this is for you. If you like contemporary Asian fusion type of food, please don't go - you'll only be disappointed!

Description
In 1952, a tenant by the name of Alistair leased the Guinea from Young's and transformed the business with a very simple idea. He realized that following the end of the Second World War, Americans were beginning to holiday in Europe in big numbers. Tourists would often, travel through France and Italy before arriving on British soil by which time they were 'gagging' for a decent steak. A decent steak was exactly what Alistair provided. Prime Scotch beef from Aberdeenshire. Basically, there was no menu and no price list. You were simply given a knife and asked to place a mark on the steak to indicate what size you wanted. Suddenly the Guinea Grill was a hot ticket, film stars, politicians, world leaders and the wealthy flocked to the back room of our tiny pub. We're founder members of the Scotch beef club and we've been serving the very best steaks for 60 years. We've trialled beef from other parts of the globe such as the US and Argentina. They all have their merits but for depth of flavour none of them compare to prime Scotch and the finest of English beef. This is the basis of our continued popularity together with the fact that our restaurant is within a unique London pub. Many of our staff have been with us for years, and we place a high value on customer recognition and warm hospitality.

Staying in Mayfair

Neighbourhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
