We fancied fish and chips during our visit to London. We came across this lovely little gem nestled in Westminster. Thinking it would cost us a arm and a leg because of the location, decided to venture in. We were a party of four adults and 3 children. We were given a table promptly and order was taken by a... We arrived to eat in the cafe not realising that it was only about 30 minutes before closing. The surly waitress didn't want to even take our order as she was busy so a colleague took it for her. As we waited for our food we realised that the waitress was preparing for closing. Around us chairs were being piled... More

I heard that fish and chips tastes not good before I go to London. But.. It was lie. The Laughing Halibut was the best fish and chips ever. It was soooooo delicious. (I ate cod and chips - maybe a basic menu). I went there 3 times in one week :) If you are worried about fish and chips, you... More

My husband and I ate here while visiting London. It's a small place, nothing fancy which is great for a fish and chip shop. The waitress suggested the halibut and it was wonderful! Nice and light and cooked perfectly. I also had the mushy peas (my first time trying) and I honest loved those almost more than the fish and... More

I work locally and every 6 weeks or so the office decides they must have fish and chips. The cod is firm and tasty, the batter crisp and light. The chips are never limp and greasy - even though we carry them wrapped for 8 minutes or so. Decor is traditional nor hipster. The staff are lovely. I would really... More

Always good and one of the cheapest places in the area for lunch......Can't go wrong. Staff are very funny and friendly, definitely some of the best fish and chips I've had. The cod cutlets are brilliant.

I chose this spot for lunch, having seen reviews that suggested it would be good for fish and chips. I liked the chips, but the fish left a not to be desired. It was chewy, while the breading was rather oily. Can't say I would come back.

We went here on some of the good reviews. Thought the halibut would be a good choice as it is in their namesake...WRONG! Waited a long time for food and when arrived was a very small portion, a bony halibut steak coated with thick batter overcooked and burnt on bottom. For 16 pounds had to complain - they agreed and... The queue down Strutton Ground at lunchtime tells the story: this is a very good chippy. If, like me, you prefer to eat sitting down rather than taking away, walk straight past the queue and find a seat in the back. The very efficient and cheerful staff will bring you a menu and deliver the order in double-quick time. It's... More

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
