Balans Soho located on Old Compton Street is a local institution renowned for two things. Firstly the food, modern British featuring a wide ranging menu that includes small dishes, large dishes and sides featuring fish, salads, steak, breakfast options and pasta. The food served is truly tasty with the portion sizes slightly larger than normal. The "Eggs in Hell" -... More

What can be better on a sunny day than sitting outside in Soho and watching the world go by! Friendly, efficient staff. Pedro who served us was fantastic. Good tasty food and large portions. Certainly not expensive. House wine £20. A perfect lunch.

I'm a regular customer at balans and this is for a reason. Upon each return I am made to feel welcome by all of the waiters and managers. Ovidiu was the first night waiter to serve me with a friend. Immediately he broke the ice by providing such a friendly and personal service. It was almost we had known each... More

This is what the tiles on the floor say as you enter this classic London establishment....and its true. We were lucky enough to be given a cozy corner table overlooking the street. The menu had plenty of excellent choices including vegetarian and share plates. Cocktails were also delicious. Excellent tastes and presentation.

Great trendy spot for a meal or a coffee. You are located in Soho, and you'll know it from the clientele, and that's fine. Food is good, well prepared, and they listen well to special instructions. Lovely place for a quiet read, or a tete a tete with a friend. Breakfast is terrific.

I youst to come here a lot and loved it. Since they changed the menu it's hit and miss. Many items I love the breakfast burrito or poached eggs are gone from the menu. However if you go and ask for these like I leave a few times the last few weeks they are obliging and make it tonight out... More

We ate here during the break between Harry Potter part 1 and 2. Service was quick and friendly. Food was very tasty! Just a couple blocks from the theater in Soho. I would recommend to friends and family.

Have been here several times for the simple reason it is a good reliable option in Soho for light food, coffee or something heavier.

Originating from the heart of Soho (the colony for the unconventional and the kingdom of the one handed clock), Balans Soho Society reignites the same café still stands where it originally began almost three decades ago. Open around the clock the café has always been a busy hang-out by day and a refuge at 4am for those in need. It boldly asks 'How does one constitute a late breakfast 2pm or 2am? Not for the fainthearted, Balans Soho Society Café is a place to indulge. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and after-dark activities in the company of fellow bon vivants. It remains a café at heart, while serving up delicious dishes it also serves sandwiches and café style nosh. And it's all done in the spirit of Soho - the iconic corner of London that has always acted as a refuge for outsiders: minorities, eccentrics, bohemians, dreamers...people drawn together by a shared conviction that normal rules don't apply to them. A place to go when you feel like doing things you probably shouldn't.

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
