We came to the pig and butcher by chance with some friends. Great discovery ! Although it can look like a standard pub from the outside, they actually have a gastronomic menu. We tried various starters, main dishes, and desserts. Every dish had sophisticated and...More

I'm a regular for Saturday evenings and Sunday lunches and the hard-working Pig and Butcher rarely fails to deliver. Great crowd, splendid beer, nice atmosphere, excellent service and flippin' lovely food. Everything a gastro-pub should be (including near the cinema and five minutes from home)....More

Had a great roast dinner this evening thanks to Ray. Get there early as we got there at 7.45 and had a long wait in store and they couldn’t guarantee a table before end of service (9pm) ... that shows how good the roasts are....More

Everything about our lunch on Saturday was absolutely brilliant and we all had a great time. The food was the best we'd had in a long time, our waitress (so sorry I didn't get your name) was lovely - friendly, helpful, knowledgable and I have...More

We were rushed. The waitress was really pushy about when she needed the table back for (which has never happened to me before). The main's arrived whilst we were still on our starter. The Yorkshire pudding on both our mains were burnt, dry and overpowering...More

We arrived just after opening time without a booking (two couples with babies), but they managed to pull together two small tables so we could eat. The roasts were excellent, with no weak elements - as were the desserts. Highly recommend

We came here for the sunday roast and unintentially arrived 20 minutes before the opened. Very glad we did because the line was strung down the street by the time they opened. We shared the pulled pork shoulder and the apple crumble. Both were great...More

Description
The Pig and Butcher occupies a handsome pub built in the mid 1800's on what was fields used by farmers to rest and feed their livestock before being sent to Smithfield's Meat Market. We have brought the pub back to it's roots and receive carcasses straight from the farm and butcher them on site. We specialise in rare breeds such as White Park cattle, Iron Age pigs and Hebridean lamb while our friend Seb at Chart Farm supplies our game - if you haven't tried his venison you haven't lived! In summer we grill over coal and wood on our specially built Robata grill. In winter we brine, cure, smoke and braise.Vegetables come from Kent and are as good and as fresh as anything you'll find in this country. Our fish is supplied by Rupert on the south coast. He calls us in the morning and tells us what the day boats have caught and what he has. This is one of the reasons our menu changes so much - we literally don't know what fish we'll be serving until we have spoken with Rupert! We take our inspiration from farmhouse tables across Europe. Food is served simply and with little fuss! Share lots of small plates or a single big plate. We like the idea of bringing conversation back to the dining table and what better way to do it than sharing/stealing food? Think of food as Granny used to make…
