Those who have visited the China Club in Hong Kong will feel very much at home here - the decor, the waiters, the food and the ambience are all there. The 1930"s Shanghai Club vibe with the most exquisite decorations to be seen. China Tang at the Dorchester was set up by David Tang and he brings all the style... More

This is grown up chinese food, beautifully prepared and served by staff who for my benefit speak English. We shared a variety of dishes and at our waiters suggestion ordered the initial part of the meal and when felt ready and able to judge ordered more food thus not the usual left overs. There was no delay in the additional food arriving... We visited China Tang on a Sunday lunchtime in November 2016 as a family. We felt a bit of an inconvenience to the staff as we had children, despite their exceptional behaviour. But far worse was the quality, temperature and portion size of the food. We love chinese food and are happy to pay for the experience, especially in London.... More

If you are staying in Mayfair as we were you can't go wrong with China Tang at the Dorchester. Beautiful decor sets the mood once you head downstairs into the restaurant. We went for dinner fairly early on a Sunday evening so it wasn't crowded which was nice. We had a very friendly server who was knowledgeable about the menu.... More

The decor is China in early twenties.Really great. The food is good especially the peking duck and Dim Sum. The service is a bit erratic but not bad.

Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by this restaurant; maybe I went in with expectations too high but I just came out feeling rather disappointed and with a sizeable hole in my purse. We came here to celebrate my partner passing his big exams to become a Chartered Surveyor so I wanted the occasion to be very special. I came in... More

Visited with my wife recently and the decor is outstanding as you would expect at the Dorchester. We had the scallop dim sum and prawn toast as starters, which was delicious. We also ordered two virgin mojitos and pina colada, which were amazing. We ordered the beef and chicken cashew nuts for the mains - these tasted ok, nothing amazing... More

Overall a disappointing experience. Service very slow all night - had to chase up drinks order more than once. Food good (particularly if you like your pigeon's head served on the plate too - not for me I'm afraid). Tables very tightly packed together. Not worth the price paid.

A family lunch to celebrate my sister-in-laws birthday and we wanted somewhere quite special with great atmosphere, great service and high quality food. The entrance from the main hotel gives an air of great expectation and arriving in China Tang does not disappoint a colourful, exciting but relaxed setting.A nice greeting and shown to a crisp table. We chose the "set Lunch,3 courses to... Huge place. They do around 300 guests daily. I will say better to go there for a table of 6 and more. If you go there for a romantic dinner, forget it. Very noisy but I should admit that for a table of friends the ambiance is there. Efficient staff, you never wait and like everywhere in London you can... More

Conceived by Sir David Tang, the founder of China Clubs in Hong Kong, Peking and Singapore, as well as the life-style brand, "Shanghai Tang", China Tang offers some of the best and most authentic Cantonese food outside China. Menus do not compromise on classical recipes and all dishes, including its signature Peking Duck are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavouring (no MSG). The rave reviews won by the food have been matched by the sumptuous interior, which is designed to evoke a romantic sense of the art deco of the Thirties. As well as an abundance of chinoiserie, and quirky objets d'art, the restaurant showcases a collection of both traditional and contemporary Chinese art, all personally chosen by Sir David Tang.In addition to the restaurant, China Tang features an exquisite bar that offers a list of classic cocktails, made to perfection, which can be ordered to accompany the dim sum menu that is served all day. For special occasions, the restaurant also offers diners 3 private dining rooms - Ping, Pang and Pong!

Staying in Mayfair

Neighbourhood Profile
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
