Very nice place for light lunch. We met friends of us to nice couple of hours in Friday sunny but cold noon. We took a quinoa salad, burger and salmon The food was tasty and says served on time in a perfect temperature. Beverage and cocktails were very good. A little beat noisy and crowded but worth to be there... More

I guess the only reason for coming here is a lack of options in terms of pub food and brunch places. Slow, unfriendly and unmotivated service, at best average food and steep price tags make it really difficult to say anything positive about this place.

Have eaten here before and enjoyed the visit Perhaps it was just a very busy night but service was on slow side It was still friendly however just had a lot of covers to look after. I suspect this is just typical of London. Everywhere is just so busy and notice it more and more when visit So would be... More

Went here on a whim as we fancied a nice roast dinner followed by a walk by the Thames. Bermondsey Street is peppered with galleries, trendy shops and old boozers turned into gastropubs. Friendly service - very nice Canadian server - good food and well presented. The pub was busy with young hipsters and felt very relaxed. We sat in... More

We hadn't booked and called in at lunch time; they managed to seat us and there was a steady trade but not jam packed. Clearly if you don't book you risk being turned away. We were particularly attracted to the game on the main menu - my wife had the Guinea Fowl and it was delicious. From the specials board... More

Went to The Garrison for dinner on Saturday evening (5th Nov). Our table was booked for 6.45 and the pub was already packed. I had noted in advance a review which described the eating space as 'cramped' and would wholeheartedly agree. However, fortunately we were moved to a table downstairs instead which was much quieter. Firstly, the positives: The service... More

Went here for lunch on a Friday. The place has great atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and competent. The food was high quality and very interesting with good attention to detail. I would certainly go again. Unfortunately the downstairs loos were not in good order and so I cannot award an excellent for this otherwise fine establishment. With... More

Wow, just wow. I've not been for a few years as not been in that part of town whilst down on business. Glad to see its not changed. Wonderful menu, atmosphere and staff make for a great meal. My soussed sardine starter was out of this world, packed full of flavour. I followed it with the guinea fowl which was... More

Had a late breakfast of Eggs Benedict and Eggs Brioche with fruit and clotted cream, stunning food and service. Nice quiet setting with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Service is good. Food OK. If you don't mind paying £14 for risotto (main size) and getting about 4 or 5 forkfuls... Now we are not greedy gluttons, but our group had to order some additional fries afterwards as we were still hungry!!! This was not a fair price for the meagre meal served. Our friend ordered the starter size... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
