Somewhat unpretentious but extremely good. There are so many so-called Italian restaurants in London which are only so so. This has the real feel of a small town restaurant everybody trying to please and the dish I had was superb...spaghettini alla vongole was better than I had tried in Italy.....my wife's mozarella salad was equally good. Do go!

We sat outside and ordered butterfly prawns in chill garlic sauce, spaghetti Bolognese and spaghetti Vongole. All the food was freshly made and well prepared; the prawns were the star of the evening and a must try. Our server was extremely helpful and efficient. All in all a nice evening.

This was an evening meal after a busy trade fair at Olympia. The restaurant was very busy (we had booked in advance) and buzzing. The food was good Italian cuisine and the wine, recommended by the waiter, was good also. Although the service was friendly we did have to ask more than once for the extra bread, the second bottle... Stumbled upon it by accident. Their pizzeria was closed so we ended up at Il Portico - wanting something Italian - our 3 boys were thinking pizza. What a serendipitous find, having the 3rd generation owner, James keep an eye out for us and direct us on all food and wine. Pasta cooked perfect al dente, James emphasized they'll cook... More

We had a wonderful dinner here last night after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. Small, friendly, wonderful ambience and the food was perfect! I can recommend the calves liver and skate wing - both were faultless. The staff were attentive and Vinny looked after us really well.

We had lunch after a extenuated day. We were received by and greeting and cheerful employee. We had the specials and they were very fresh and tasteful. Really happy with the random choice! Definitely a must go place when in the surroundings.

Had a business evening meal and I must say it was great. The homemade minestrone soup was delicious. For mains I had the risotto which was wow. Great friendly service I would highly recommend this place.

Il Portico is a very Italian restaurant: starters, pasta, mains (with sides), and desserts are on the menu in that order. Many items use Slow Food ingredients. Everything is well prepared. We're kinda foodies and took our London host for a bit of a splash out. We ate well, relaxed, drank good wine. We all had antipasti ( I recommend... More

Description
The oldest family run restaurant in London. Spanning 6 decades and three generations, Il Portico Restaurant on Kensington High Street has been cooking regional Italian specialities since it was first opened in the 1960"s by acclaimed chef Pino Chiavarini. Still managed to this day by the same family, siblings James and Francesca draw heavily from their roots, providing simple, authentic Italian food from their home region of Emilia Romagna and surrounding area. Whilst the family are always on hand to welcome you in, our Executive chef, Eduardo (currently in his 25th year of service with us) concentrates on slow, homemade dishes with a sense of history and provenance.
