A crowded restaurant very noisy with seats crammed together. It is difficult to have a conversation without shouting as the background music is also loud. The staff are pleasant but the food is average. I had a house special which was ground lamb served in a curried sauce. The meal was horrid and definitely an acquired taste and I wish... More

Negative: - Too hectic and unorganised. I came in and ran around for 10 minutes asking for a relevant person to talk to about my booking. - They counted the wrong number of people and insisted us to pay for 18 heads instead of the 17 people that came (an extra £25) we were late for a club entry to... Such a disappointment! This restaurant has been famous for its succulent, tender grilled meats. 5 of us went there on for Sunday lunch. Chicken and lamb chops were hard tough and dry. The curries were swimming in oil. Have they become complacent? The quality of the meat was poor and the grilled meats were overcooked.

We've just been for a Tayyabs and it was a complete waste of money. The sauces were watery, we had to wait ages for a drink. The food was dreadful and they dumped the plate of naan on top of the water jug. When the waiter took our payment, there were no niceties and he didn't even ask us if... More

My second visit and I was so disappointed. 3 vegetarian dishes arrived that were bland and floating in oil. Tasteless. Oily. Gunk. There was nothing redeeming about the meal. Restaurant very busy. It was exceptionally noisy with tables squashed like sardines. Won't be returning.

This was my second visit to Tayyabs, and it never fails to impress. Hoards of people at the door waiting to be seated, a great atmosphere of people enjoying the food (and BYOB!) and THE LAMB CHOPS! However, I would like to mention that the bathrooms were completely revolting. The one ladies bathroom was overflowing with water last night, leaving... More

I've eaten here a number of times now. The food is very good indeed. My family and i love the lamp chops, chicken tikka and sheeh kebabs. The dry lamb is absolutely wonderful. Succulent, well spiced and you keep wanting more. Tadka Dhal, rice and breads are also all very good. Service is a bit hit and miss but this... More

It was my first experience of the famous british sport : queueing. I mean I've queued before but never like that and never intentionally (I knew what I was getting into) Apparently you can book tables but I'm not really the planning type of girl so we bought our booze (I love restaurants that have a BYO policy !) and... Me and some friends had a surprise birthday meal here and I was NOT clear that it was a bring your own bottles, 2 of the waiters didn't seem that they where meant to work here and there dress code did not match the other workers there, it is a really busy restaurant even at 5pm, if you don't like... Tayyabs is a well known place. It is always busy for a reason. Their food is freshly prepared and compared to other curry houses you can taste the difference in the freshness and meat quality. Love their Seekh Kebabs. And for lunch if you are short on time be sure to try their famous Kebab rolls. Freshly prepared succulent and... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighbourhood Profile
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
