Every time we go York, there is always one place that is brimmed with crowds of people waiting to be seated into the restaurant to devour ornate cakes, scone and tea. That place is Betty's. Me and sister took the chance of waiting in the tea room at Stonegate. The wait was like queing up for a roller coaster, waiting... More

This cafe is upstairs in an old building, so split levels, odd corners, toilets downstairs, etc. Queuing on the stairs was not good but difficult to see any alternative.Once inside and at a table, all was good, especially the food and the staff.

We've been to Betty's before but this was a first visit to this branch. The shop downstairs added a couple of inches to my hips just by passing through! The tea room upstairs is quite charming with sloping floors and wonky doorways. The service was excellent and the cakes and coffee were delicious.

This was a packed Bettys as the Chinese have obviously decided that this is typical of an English tearooms. Nonetheless great quality comestibles ( as they should be described) and a blast from the past - even if imaginery.

Immensely popular venue, and rightly so. Great lunch and the Swiss-themed cakes were fab. I suppose it is rarely a quiet place. But it was so bustling that people were queueing on the stair waiting for a table. Tables are close to each other, so overall it's rather noisy. The staff are busy, but with the number of tables they... More

We popped in for a cup of tea and ended up having a cake each. Nice place, gives the impression of an up-market tea house. Service was good, saw some afternoon teas around us and they looked decent. I had Yorkshire Cream tea (2 scones) which was very nice.

Food was very nice and expected it to be little more pricey, but disappointed to be charged £6.50 for a children's bacon sandwich - 2 rashers of bacon in 2 slices of sliced bread and the bacon was fatty. And £2.05 for 1 slice of toast for my 3 year old daughter. I suppose if people are queing out the... More

Stopped in for pot of tea and a sandwich each, great food the club sandwich was delicious and definitely filled a hole all washed down by a nice pot of tea. Have to say the food and service was great and could not fault anything. Queuing up the stairs to get in as we departed so stop early to beet... More

Had to wait on stairs to get a table. Surly head waitress but nice waitresses. Dosnt stand out anymore as the premier afternoon tea place. Small tables cramped when a couple of people dinning. Need to rethink the set up to keep at the top of the market, relying on past laurels.

This is the smaller one of the two “Betty’s” in York. But also very busy. There is a shop selling cakes and teas downstairs and there is a charming tea room upstairs. The floor is very creaky and sloping but that only adds to the charming old style character. The excellent tea/coffee and cakes are served on nice china, the... More
