From the bottom it looks like just another beer shop. But go upstairs and the whole atmosphere changes! It's all wonderfully rustic and medieval at times. There's a great selection of beers naturally and they range vastly in % so whatever you're into it will...More

A fun find!!! Fun atmosphere. Fun, "shunting-type" decor. Husband and son tried some great beers. Staff very friendly. You sit up on the second floor in very tight quarters, but this is all part of the charm. Good pub food with good prices. Definitely make...More

We read about this here on Trip Advisor and so glad we did. This has the cliche pub experience of England. The place is tiny (which is a drawback if busy), the decor is rustic hunter's lodge. The food is solidly British. And the kitchen...More

Fantastic range of beers, both on tap and bottles downstairs to go. Spent absolutely far too much on beers due to the range. Checked all of the dates as well and all really fresh. Got a bit crowded as a Saturday night but still comfortable...More

Great place to stop for a quirky drink. Barman made a real effort with us and great selection of beers. Didn't eat but other people's food looked nice. Was very busy but made huge effort to accommodate us.

Stumbled across this absolute jewel. Lots of different beers but for us the mead was a great attraction. We noticed a sign saying pub upstairs. OMG! .... a real old feel. Benches covered in furs with wax dripped candles dotted around. Lots of atmosphere for...More

Great selection of unusual and popular beers from around the world. Staff friendly. A little gem hidden in York. My husband had a great time looking at all the different kinds of beer.

A must visit if you are in York. Downstairs is a fantastic emporium of hundreds of bottled beers. Upstairs is a room to eat and drink in although quite small and can get busy. In the cellar is a great range of spirits to choose...More

We stock over 700 ales and are very competitive on price due to the volume we buy. Pop in and try some beers in the pub

Description
This is a medieval ale house and specialist beer merchant/store. It is simply amazing, the quirky food is excellent - robust cheeseboards , pies, stews, best locally sourced ingredients and has a 5 start rating from hygiene standards. They also have some amazing holiday apartments, check out their website
