Having checked the menu online before booking, we were delighted to see such an array of veggie and fish dishes. We thought 'At last! Someone who takes veggie seriously.' Sadly, while there were quite a few options, the halloumi burger was extremely average and the fish and chips were served on a too small board (yawn) and the fish was... More

After a long week, we hoped for a peaceful and relaxing night out with good food, drink and service. The Black Boy delivered on all of these objectives. Perfect setting for those seeking a romantic night out and good value for money. One of the best kept secrets in Oxford.

Booked for Valentines Day but could not get there until later as had doctor's appointment, so reserved a table for 9. Arrived at 9:17, no one on reception, place fairly quiet for Valetine's Day and no apparent atmosphere. Unsmiling manager came out and told us we were too late as the kitchen closed at 9:15. I thought he must be... More

This restaurant was familiar to our family and we were impressed on our first visit. The service was very friendly and efficient and we loved the food, which was just that little bit different from what is normally offered at this kind of establishment. It was a cold evening and we would have preferred it if the restaurant were a... More

We last ate here about 4 years ago and had a delicious meal so we were looking forward to a return visit. Sadly, we were very disappointed by our most recent visit. Bizarrely, one of our party had his food served on a cold plate which the waiter brought to our table using a cloth, remarking "be careful, it's hot".... More

We recently had our works annual Christmas lunch at the Black Boy. Extremely disappointed! It cost us all £26 each plus service charge for the most lack lustre meal I have ever had. Apart from taking for ever (which on a lunchtime you would think places are geared up to serve you promptly knowing you are a work party)the food... More

Always packed, book ahead to avoid disappointment. The best, freshest, fattest mussels I have ever had in my life in a moules frites (so much better than Cote). The menu changes frequently, make yourself a regular!

The staff and service were fab! The waiting staff were attentive, polite and helpful. The food was really good and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back, especially to sample more of the delicious desert menu!
