today was mine and my partners second visit, decided to bring my parents with us this time and we were not disappointed! Food was absolutely lovely as always. Chicken burger is incredible! Big thick juicy piece of chicken and crispy buttermilk coating😍. The girls that...served us were so lovely and friendly, and the puddings are spot on too! After seeing another review about a pie I'm excited to go back again and try one!! We have had Sunday lunch here before too and the lamb just melts in your mouth. Proper good grub!More

Wasn't going to do a review because it was never going to be a good one especially after our terrible experience at The British Oak Mosborough on Wednesday (9/6/21) but I got an e-mall from them asking for one so here goes: Booked on-line 6.30...to 7.45 pm slot paid £10 deposit. Arrived 6.30 pm taken to our table which was all by itself (no other tables or customers close by with only a people-less bar to look at ) so a rubbish table in anyone's eyes. After 15 minutes had to ask for drinks, 7 pm drinks arrived then 5 mins later had to ask for food (I say had to ask because no one approached us which is what normally happens) the guy who booked us in took our food order and told us that atm food was taking 40 mins this guy never mentioned that when we booked in (wonder why?) we decided to stay because we needed food! Whilst waiting we looked at our phones, had a chat, played i-spy ( I lost so threw a wobbler and wouldn't play anymore!) At about 7.35 pm a waitress was passing our table (Rosie) so I asked for two more drinks, mine was the same drink I had before - half of lager {Pravha) she said that they had sold out, this kinda through me off the edge, I said to Rosie that I know it's not her fault but our experience at their pub was the worst and we should have been told about the food delay on arrival. Rosie explained that they had a new chef and because of their booking system they were getting over booked with not enough staff to cope. I said this was non of our doing and all we wanted was a nice night in a pub with a meal without any stress, she agreed and apologised. 5 mins later (7.40 pm) Rosie brought us our drinks and kindly said they had taken them of the bill I said we didn't want free drinks and all we wanted was our food! More chat, tapping table, moaning about a tear in the seat we was on, anyway at 8.15 pm still no food so I said to wife I would go to the loo and if it had not arrived when I got back we would leave food-less! Guess what? ....yeah no food!, Coincidentally Rosie came with the utensils just as I got back to the table (no food though!) I told Rosie it was 8.20 pm and one hour fifteen mins after placing our food order and one hour fifty minutes after walking in through their door and still NO FOOD! I told her that we had to get up at 5 am for work and couldn't wait any longer and my £10 deposit would cover our drinks ( we didn't drink the second lot) We went straight to McDonald's who had loads of staff but sadly rubbish food! So I can't recommend The British Oak because I would be lying and I don't think you can blame me and we won't be going back (realise this won't worry them) Just to remind you: Not told about food delay on arrival. Rubbish, and I mean rubbish depressing table. Staff don't approach you I had to find them to order. Running out of Pravha? Moaning about new chef and over booking. £10 for a pint and a half in a pub??? Had to go to McDonald's I'm rubbish at i-spy (not their fault though) Rosie was good though she seemed embarrassed and tried to help the situation and is a credit to the pub (her manager didn't bother to come to our table) I know you're thinking WOW that's a lot of writing... It's okay, nothing on telly so gave me something to do, anyway I'm going to copy and paste onto Trip advisor, so all good.More

We visited for lunch, and were very impressed by both the quality of the food and the pleasant attentiveness of the staff. The only downside was the lack of choice in beers for somewhere that calls itself an 'Ale House', although I can probably forgive...that as we were only just coming out of lockdown.More

Popped in for an evening meal. WOW! Best pie I have EVER tasted. I am 60+ and have travelled the world but this Steak and Ale pie was absolutely fantastic. Pastry crisp and perfect, meat moist and tender, gravy excellent, chunky chips the perfect match....My wife had Beef Roast...excellent too...and the Yorkshire Pud melted in the mouth. Add to this the friendliest staff we have encountered in a long long time. Top Pie. Top Marks. Top Pub. Just wished we didn't live an hour away. Thank you. We highly recommend.More

Had a fantastic take out from the British Oak. Food all came prepared as you would expect to see it in a seated restaurant. The portion sizes are great, and the food is so fresh. The smoked salmon pasta dish was incredible, silky smooth sauce...and lots of smoked salmon. Even with the Covid restrictions you were still made to feel welcome, having your own area of the restaurant to wait in while the staff brought over your order. The staff and chefs are brilliant! We look forward to our next visit!More

I’m a local so it’s great to have a nice pub to walk to. The food is lovely and staff really friendly. Sunday roasts are delicious!! However it frustrates me how limiting and boring the menu is. I know it’s tough times, but the menu...has always been the same for years, so can’t blame the limited menu on Covid. Yes pies are great and good old meat and veg. But your customers are changing and you need add something a bit more interesting to your menu. A 2 minute drive down to mossbrook and the place is heaving midday in midweek, when there’s only 2 groups in your pub. They have what I’d call a much more modern menu, accommodating a wider demographic of customers. More people are choosing to stay local so you need to catch up.More

I have been to the British Oak countless times and I am always happy with the service and grub. Being a sunday and in lockdown/corona world I was surprised to be able to get a table same day online! I booked and was happy to...pay a deposit to secure my table. We had a pie and a roast dinner along with a few pints, the PIES the PIES never faulter and those bloody chips - ridiculously big and good!...the roast was perfect and the beef cooked perfectly...not to mention the yorkshires! The staff were atentive, lovely and welcoming and the health and safety precautions were top notch. Cant wait to come back again soon, Thank you for another lovely sunday lunch.More
