Visited with family, 6 of us age range 2 to 85. Very over priced for what you get. Visited 9 months ago to for Sunday lunch and that was as bad but thought may be due to covid so thought would try again. 8oz steak...ordered, £16 not a bad price you think but piece of steak no veg or salad and around 8 or 9 chunky chips which half were black. Steak and ale pie £12 pastry was so hard you couldn't cut it, children's mac and cheese £6 2 mouthfuls and gone. For a country pub very disappointing, won't be returning, neither will family. Stay clear.More

Very very disappointed with this pub, firstly they would not let our party of 8 ( made up of 2 households) sit on one table, the manager proclaimed the reason was that the tables were screwed to the floor and only 6 people are allowed...to sit together. So we obeyed the rules and sat at 2 tables, it came as a great surprise that the tables were not screwed to the floor and it tipped back crushing my mother's leg. The staff did not help her up or ask her if she was ok, they did not offer an apology or offer to replace the drinks that ended up landing all over my mother. After my mother's injury she decided that her leg was hurting to much to carry on with the meal and asked if they could cancel the main meal and get a refund. The manager totted up a refund but did not refund the starter's, he said in a rude manner "you've eaten the starters so you will pay for the starters!". Utterly disgusted at the lack of human empathy from the managers after their seating area had caused such a painful injury, not even a sorry from the management for being responsible for hurting my mother. Its such a shame because the food is actually nice here but the management and customer service is terrible and the wait times are way too long.More

My wife and I opted for the traditional Sunday lunch with beef and Yorkshire pudding. It was absolutely fantastic with a good selection of root vegetables, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. Beef was cooked to perfection and not a thing was left upon...our plates !!! Children opted for gammon and steak pie, again both dishes were perfect. These were followed by Sticky Toffee pudding and Biscoff cheesecake with cream, absolutely scrumptious. Will definitely use again, thank you so much for a hassle free Sunday lunch 👍🏼👍🏼More

Visited today. Went on the off chance of getting a table glad we did. Felt safe as in following Covid advice as far as social distancing etc. Really enjoyed our meal of gammon and pie, apparently the Slumbering Monk ale was good too.

We pre booked our table as there are less tables in use due to social distancing. We all had different things from the menu and all left very full and very happy. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentative. I can...highly recommend the Steak and Ale pie. It wasn't really the weather for it, but I really enjoyed it. We stopped off here on our way home to Blackpool from Alton Towers and I'm do glad we did. Lovely food.More

The steaks my family had were superb. The wild mushroom risotto was so tasty. Desserts were lovely too. Fast and friendly service as well. Lovely wood fire. Only negative was a number of cheery but noisy drinkers which made it hard to hear each other.
