If you like shell in your eggs, hollandaise from the microwave and a reminder of the embarrassing failures of british cuisine, this is for you.

Had breakfast in here a couple of times whilst in Newcastle. The food was good although the eggs benedict would have been better on a muffin rather than toast, also the hollandaise was a bit bland. The pancakes with bacon was delicious although slightly unbalanced with 5 pancakes and only 2 slices of bacon.

I love blakes. I've been going for many years on and off, and every time I remember how great the place is. Gray street is such a great location, and the coffee and cakes live up to the location. Very friendly staff. One of the best places in town

My boyfriend and I went for Sunday brunch last week. My boyfriend ordered the vegetarian breakfast and I ordered a chicken salad. The vegetarian breakfast was nice and it was a good portion. The salad however was disgusting. The salad itself had a good portion size and would have been nice had the leaves themselves not been on the turn.... More

We went for a quick coffee and cake. The coffee was fine (filtered) but yhe Carmel Shortcake was poor. The place is is well located in the city centre and there are plenty of tables. The staff were fine. I probably try one of the numerous coffe shops next time.

Just what we wanted for a Sunday a relaxing brunch in an atmosphere that added to us feeling chilled out. The poached eggs were cooked just right and an excellent cup of coffee just hit the spot! We will be back and recommend to everyone!

Enjoyed the all day breakfast here this week... not much to say other than it was good value at £6.95 with a drink. Liked the selection of newspapers too.

I have walked past Blakes loads, always full always looks a bit out of my league, thought well lets ditch Greggs & give it a try. The breakfast is amazing, so much to choose from, i had eggs Benedict it was amazing. The place is spotless, hip trendy, fantastic service, ideally placed, busy later on.

Thank Lee S
