The Tap was recommended to us whilst we were staying in Brecon. The pies are simply delicious. Well filled and interesting, tasty combinations. Both the standard and small pies represent good value and the sides are well prepared too. The atmosphere in the pub is relaxed and friendly. Both nights we ate, there was live music and happy staff :)
Would definitely recommend.

A busy, buzzy and popular venue with a varied and interesting crowd. We booked early evening for a quick meal and drink before heading to a concert at the cathedral. Staff were very accommodating when they knew we were in a rush. Pies, pies and more pies! Small version comes with one veg, large version comes with two. Great choice of craft beers, most of them from local breweries. Hours later, heading back to our B&B, stopped by again for a late night last drink. Warming, since by then it was -2 outside! Especially loved the wall decor - hundreds of tiny sheep individually stuck onto a rural scene. ÂŁ5 a sheep, decorate it yourself and all monies go to the brave folk who make up the area's mountain rescue. Make sure you buy one!

Myself and three friends met to celebrate a birthday and we chose to lunch today as they had a special St David's Day menu and Welsh folk music. What really impressed me was the attention to detail they showed to my friend who is coeliac making a bespoke menu for her and even going to the trouble to write up their recipe for yorkshire puddings as my friend had said hers were always flat. On top of the recipe they made a special gluten free scotch for her which was outstanding and something she had not enjoyed for many years. All told the service was on point, the food gorgeous and the Folk music perfect. Will definitely be going again....soon.

Based on the reviews, we made straight for the Brecon Tap after arriving for a weekend away in the area. There was a good range of interesting local beers on tap, we enjoyed our first so much that we had to stay for another and pies for dinner. On a Friday evening in January, there was a reasonable crowd in and an enjoyable atmosphere. Pleased to find that the experience lived up to the positive reviews that we'd read.

The staff are very helpful and the food is simple but so tasty, filling and good value for money. Would highly recommend Brecon Tap. (Would book in advance, as - I guess due to Covid restrictions - they can only accommodate so many people. If you try and book on the day, it's unlikely you'll get in).

We had just spent a week in Cornwall where we struggled to eat out for various reasons. We were desperate for veg and gravy!
On our 1st day in Brecon we found Brecon tap, we were attracted as we like real ales.
As I walked in I noticed people eating pie and mash, I didnt need to look any further.
The pies come in a choice of large or small, the small was more than enough for me, with the small you get the choice of 1 side, but can pay a ÂŁ1 for an extra one which is what I did. My husband had the large, which was a big dinner!
Over the week we drank here quite often, all the staff we encountered were friendly, attentive and welcoming.
We thought the food and beer was all reasonably priced.
This and the Hop in were our 2 favourite bars fir overall experience.

We discovered the Brecon Tap recently and have been there twice for food and drinks at lunchtime in the last month. The place itself is informal and relaxed with friendly, welcoming staff and a great range of ales. Their red wines served by glass or bottle are also very good and served at a good temperature.. Their ever changing pies are delicious and prepared and cooked on site. For the larger appetite, the large pie comes served with 2 sides. I feel that some of the sides do not pair with the pie and jug of gravy particularly well (e.g. coleslaw) but all are very tasty in their own right.
The place is always busy and is also dog friendly which is a bonus for us dog people.
Prices are reasonable too. Be prepared to wait for your freshly made pie (I've seen some grumbles on here about that) but sipping a decent pint of ale while you wait is no hardship in my book!

Visited with my husband, on a Saturday night - quite early fortunately, or we wouldn't have got a table. The pies here are absolutely amazing. I had Beef and Bacon pie and he had Pork and Cider. Real chunks of tender meat and a full casing of pastry. You also get to choose two sides from the menu - the winter veg is outstanding, We had two pie meals, a bottle of wine and one dessert for around ÂŁ40, so fantastic value. The atmosphere here is lovely, the Christmas decorations are up, are tasteful and pretty. COVID rules are strictly adhered to with distancing, sanitiser, face-coverings etc. all felt very safe. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely visit the Brecon Tap next time we are in the area. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Was desperately looking for somewhere independent for brekky on Easter Sunday. Only found 3 national chains who charge ÂŁ5 for a sarnie. Nothing else was own in Brecon. Went in to the Tap house to ask if he knew anywhere that did breakfasts. The owner said they were doing Sunday lunches but he would ask the chef. We ended up having a fabulous lamb Sunday lunch and a cooked breakfast. All the veg was seasoned perfectly, cheese sauce was great. The gravy! Oh, it came in a cup (as the meal was takeaway due to covid) and I honestly could have drank it straight out of the cup. Its too die for. The breakfast had black pudding, mushrooms and a lovely potato gratin. Lovely service, food quantity was fabulous and the quality great. Thank you.

Came here on a whim after climbing pen y fan mountain. They have a great simple menu, if you love pies and great beer, this is the pub for you!
Really good prices too! We had 1 large pie, 2 sides, 1 small pie 1 side, a pint of diet coke and 2 pints of local brewed later for ÂŁ26. Bargain. Can't wait to visit again!

True gem of a place. We came to the Brecon tap twice last week whilst staying in Brecon. The beer here is excellent. We sampled nearly all the beers available on 2 visits and all were superb. Fresh, well kept, nice head retention. The place has a great atmosphere. The 3 members of staff we met were all really friendly and helpful and have great knowledge of the beers they’re selling despite the fact they are constantly rotating the beers. We didn’t eat but we had food envy of the people who were. The Sunday roast in a Yorkshire pudding looked amazing and we overheard the table nearby saying how good it was. If we get back to Brecon we will certainly be paying the tap another (several) visits. They also have a cracking range of bottled beers to buy and take home. Well priced too. Faultless.

We were recommended Brecon Tap by our host but if you want to eat here booking is essential as tables go fast.
Brecon Tap is a micro pub that only do specialty beers, some spirits & wine.
They are famous for their pies, but also do other dishes (no chips).
We had a large Chicken & Mushroom pie with 2 sides each, served with a generous pot of gravy, it was so delicious. Nice big chunks of chicken and lovely crisp pastry. Couldn't eat another thing afterwards.
Prices are very reasonable, 2 large pies, a beer and g&t ÂŁ33.
Very good range of specialty beers which sell fast, so once it's gone, it's gone.
The guys and girls working were cheerful & friendly.

The quality of the ingredients used in their cooked breakfasts are fantastic, no cutting corners here that is for sure. This was all presented in a cardboard takeaway container, not only promoting an environmental approach but more importantly ensuring the contents were still hot when we got home even with outside temperatures just above freezing. Cant fault the friendly staff who remain upbeat and motivated during these uncertain times. Message to self, put a Tap breakfast onto the weekly shopping list.

Nice little bar/cafe in central Brecon. It’s dog friendly, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the drink selection is good. The food is also delicious but it seems there are some issues with how many orders the kitchen can handle at once. We were told to wait 20 minutes before placing an order then another 20 for food to arrive - we didn’t mind at all as we just had another beer, but I could see it annoying others. It’s also worth noting that they say they serve lunch until 3pm, but on both the day we ate there and the day before the kitchen was closed by 2pm. Again, just something that’s worth people knowing. Still definitely recommend based on the friendly staff and food quality.

Hi there!
Thank you for your review and feedback!
I am so glad to read that you were happy overall with your visit; it's especially good to hear your opinion on the food!
Unfortunately we do have a small kitchen so we do have to limit how many orders we can take into the kitchen at any one time; sometimes this means informing customers that there may be a wait before we can take their orders; I'm sorry to hear that this may have upset or angered some people. In regards to our having to shut the kitchen early; this is due to the fact that we make all of our food fresh, in house so we may have needed that extra hour to prepare for our evening service (especially if we are fully booked). However, I completely understand that this will have caused disappointment and frustration for those hoping to dine with us after 2pm so we will look to potentially changing our service hours during busier times if feasible.
Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the future for more pies and pints!

We visited the Brecon Tap as it was highly rated by Ta.Unfortunately once we had ordered our drinks we were then told that on the already limited menu, there were only large pie’s and then only chicken, no beef and no burgers :(
After 45 minutes of waiting, we had to ask when our food would be arriving -nobody came back to inform us so after a further 10 minutes we asked again, ready to leave at this point. It arrived an hour after ordering. And was it worth the wait? ...sadly not, my chicken & gammon pie contained a good portion of meat but the chicken was so dry! And they forgot my Wife’s side of potatoes. We didn’t hang about, but we had our larger for free. The 2 ladies who served us were pleasant enough and had a lot of apologies to convey for the understaffed kitchen. Shame, but we can not recommend this eatery.

Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to review us and provide us with your feedback.
I am truly sorry your experience at The Brecon Tap was not a pleasant one; I completely understand that we let you down in a number of ways during your visit.
By way of explanation, we do have a small kitchen here in which all food is made fresh and in house; unfortunately this does mean that occasionally we do run out of certain items from our menu. However, I completely agree that that bare a menu is not acceptable for our food service and we have been thinking of ways to address this and make more time for preparing food so this does not happen again.
The chicken pie is one of our most popular pies so I think that the chicken being dry was an issue for that batch only; I can only apologise for this and hope that you may visit again so we can do better and provide you with the setting for an excellent evening!
Thank you again for your feedback and hope to see you again in the future.
