This was my 3rd visit to Hills and as usual, it wasn't a let down.
The food is consistently good, although you have to be wary for the items that are pure gimmick (I'm looking at you, sausage roll burger).
I don't know how, but they even make smashed cucumber and sweet potato fries taste incredible.
The staff all work incredibly hard, although sometimes the service can be slow. It would be ideal if there was an option to pay via QR code rather than asking for the bill and going to the bar to pay.
The food can be on the expensive side of you're just expecting regular burgers, (£55 for 2 special burgers, 2 sides and 2 cokes). The food is cooked to order which is represented in how good the food its.
My niggle points;
The music can be too loud
The floor bounces and bangs when people walk past (frustrating if sat in a high foot traffic area)
The food can be a bit too salty (chips and gravy burger)
The chairs are so incredibly uncomfortable and not good if you have wider hips. The bars dig in and bruised my hips on my first visit. For a place that attracts foodies and big eaters, I'd expect more comfortable chairs.

The best burger I’ve ever eaten.
Pros - the most amazing burgers, staff friendly and the place is nice and clean. Staff are knowledgeable about menu, asked about dietary requirements and gave options for the vegan burger that I ordered.
Cons - the price 😳, you’re looking at £30 per person minimum for burger, chips or a side and a drink. The music was very loud and I could barely hear the waitress talking to us. We were waiting a long time for the bill, we ended up paying at the bar before leaving even though we were planning on having another drink, we couldn’t get the waiting staffs attention.

We visited for a lunch, able to pre-book a couple of days earlier.
Overall, service felt slow and disinterested - e.g. nobody took away empty glasses/bottles at table; nobody asked whether we enjoyed our meal at the end; plates were not taken once we had finished; we were not offered the dessert menu; we had to go to the bar to pay rather than at our table. It felt a bit like the staff (of which there were many) were more interested in chatting at the bar.
Food, however, was excellent. Nicest burgers we have had in this country and a great selection of dishes. The poutine was delicious as was the New York burger.
A fantastic view of the Brecon Beacons from the venue - I’d imagine it’d be great at sunset!
We’re glad we visited and tried the food but I don’t think we’ll lose any sleep if we don’t return for some time.

We had an awesome experience in 2021 and were eager to get back however it was a huge let down this time round. A Terrible booking service , impossible to get hold of after booking online ( we had to check as there was no confirmation / caution they charge fees ). Service was good by the actual staff but the biggest let down was how salty all of the food was . We had two of the mint lamb burgers which were covered in salt , our friend couldn’t even eat it . We also had the New Yorker ( again very salty ) and we had a side order of the halloumi fries which were also somehow covered in salt ( impressive how they managed that one ). Children’s menu seems to be safe from the Saltpacolypse. I’m not against salt but this is overkill … no rush to return..

This was our second visit to Hills and unfortunately we left feeling quite disheartened by the Chef's poor customer care!
Firstly I want to acknowledge front of house staff as they were very welcoming, polite and couldn't do enough for you. As stated in many other reviews, the electronic booking system is a nightmare, you can pretty much never book a table and can also never get hold of the restaurant via telephone. However on this occasion staff tried their best and were able to squeeze us in when we turned up at the restaurant (table of 2 with a high chair). We had no issues with the wait on service, drinks or food - everything was really quick apart from the one thing we ordered for my 10 month old baby - 1 hard boiled egg!! I explained that the egg had to be hard as runny eggs aren't suitable for babies, something you would think fully trained chefs would be aware of. We waited over 20 minutes for 1 hard boiled egg to be cooked, in this time we had been served our burger meals and had pretty much finished the meal by the time we had queried at least 3 times to the waiter about the whereabouts of the egg. The waiter apologetically explained that they had forgotten about the egg and it would be ready in a couple of minutes. 10 minutes later the egg arrived and it was totally undercooked, translucent and runny. We raised the issue with the waiter and to save them from making another egg I suggested frying the same egg to make sure it was fully cooked. The waiter returned and quite embarrassingly explained that the chefs had said "we can make another hard boiled egg but it will take at least 15 minutes because we are really busy". Absolutely pathetic!! We ended up telling them to forget about the egg and promptly left the restaurant.
It's not only shocking that the Chef's in Hills can't make a hard boiled egg but it's the pure ignorance of making a 10 month old wait another 15 minutes because they are too busy to make another hard boiled egg when (1) they forgot about the egg in the first instance and (2) made a runny egg after us waiting 20 minutes. I would definitely query the competency of these chefs!! It's also really unfair that the amazing front of house staff are having to deal with these awkward situations with customers when it is clearly out of their control. Hills owners or higher management really need to start reading your reviews to make some changes!!

I used to like this place years ago. But over the last year or so I don’t know if they’ve gone a bit mad or what but the gimmick burgers they come up with every month is just not necessary. I commented on a facebook story and I got a reply from whoever does their Facebook. Got nothing but hostility rather than taking a critique and acknowledging it I was answered with “come up and see us for a chat keyboard warrior”. Then proceeds to block me without a chance for a reply. Really unprofessional on this side for sure. If that’s how they want to deal with any form of criticism then that’s on them. Telling people / customers to come and see them isn’t what I’d see a professional doing. Seems like they want to ask me out for a fist fight or something.

Lovely Scenic Journey up from Swansea. Worth a drive up. Considering they have a very strict booking procedure that threaten to charge £20 per head if your more than 15 minutes late and that you have to vacate your table within 2hrs the staff weren't exactly in a rush to serve you. Twice we went to the bar to order and twice we were told someone will be over. So we're half hour in and a polite girl came to serve us. Straight forward Service. Didn't have to wait long. Burgers were lovely. Abit on the pink side for us but nice enough. I ate mine plus whatever the misses couldn't eat. £3.50 for 2 dried up onion rings. That was a poor show. Atleast give us a basket of them with some sort of moisture in them.
If your going to charge roughly £15 -£18 a burger atleast you can do is throw in the fries along with the burger to kind of justify the high price you charge. All in all the food was nice but not for the price they charge. Overly hyped Burgers and if you want anything added to the burger well that just keeps bumping the price up.
After that we didn't fancy the extra cost of a sweet so Asdas (Ystalyfera) it was.
So was it worth it? The journey yes but not the price.
Would we go again? Uh no. But thanks for the experience.

First time eating here and it was ok . Personally didn’t feel that the burger was anything out of the ordinary it was just a nice burger .
The restaurant it self is ok the staff are ok they do lack any sort of enthusiasm it’s all very flat in there and robotic I was expecting more in ambiance maybe some sort of Gimmick considering the slogan is “ parental advisory explicit Burgers “ when they are just nice burgers .
FYI the chairs are extremely uncomfortable so don’t expect a relaxing time is very much a expensive quick meal

Met with a rude member of staff trying to be funny. Sarcasm isn’t a welcoming trait in a waiter.
Presented with menu, fairly expensive, but I’m willing to pay for what I get if it’s worth it.
It’s not , a very small burger (I had the New Yorker) with Pastrami , pickles and sauerkraut. It was over seasoned. I thought maybe because of my pastrami and pickles, nope it was the burger itself as I tried my own and my partners separately and both were overpowering with saltiness.
Burger sauce was tasteless too.
I addressed this with the waiter (the sarcastic one , who tried to be funny again) at the end of our service and was told “yeah the chefs know some people think it’s salty, but they said , tough, as that’s how they make them”
So no point in expressing any thoughts or opinions.
£11.90 for one cheeseburger, which is two patties with one slice of cheese. No salad, no tomato, no cucumber, pickle or anything.
It cost us £43 for two burgers, two fries and a Coke Zero and ginger beer.
Unimpressed.
I feel the owner has attempted to capitalise on Brecon’s lack of similar vibe establishments, but by hiking prices and allowing your staff to
Act however they wish will not entice me to return.
Thanks, but, no thanks.

Food was amazing but….. I booked a family meal for 1930hrs and arrived on time where we were allocated our table, which was hidden behind a table of 12 and 6. There were empty tables in the main area which remained unoccupied during our visit. We were given our menus and ordered drinks which arrived. By 2020hrs no one had visited to take our food order and I walked towards the bar area to see if I could order there, but on route I spoke with a server who said she was on her way. She apologised for the delay but stated “we try to serve the larger tables first” which as you can imagine made us feel less important and worthy of being at the restaurant.
Our food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. While waiting for our food, I had to go to the bar to order some drinks. I ordered a non-alcohol beer, cherry lemonade, and a glass of wine. The server said that she could not see the wine on her system but as it was the same as my previous glass she would get it from there. The beer and lemonade arrived but no wine, I thought it would be arriving soon. However it never arrived!!. When I went to pay I queried about the wine and told that they could not locate the wine. At no point did anyone tell us this or offer an alternative.
Although the food was amazing, we were disappointed with our time at the restaurant, this being our fourth visit and I had recommended the restaurant to a colleague who visited earlier the same day.
Sorry for the negative feedback but we were not made to feel welcome or important enough to warrant a basic level of service.

Attended on a busy bank holiday afternoon. Whilst we hadn’t booked, as was an impromptu visit, I don’t really feel the need to feel like a piece of s*** asking if they had a table. They didn’t, so was recommended to wait for an available one outside. One did become available after 15 mins which was great. It was outside. When I said to the waitress we were ready, “5 mins after sitting down” she replied “oh no lovely, we come to you when we are ready”
1 hour waiting (I’m not joking) -
When I enquired inside, about how long would it be (after about half an hour) I was again laughed at and told that he didn’t know.
The waitress when she arrived, had the cheek to ask “were we ready to order” despite walking passed our table numerous times.
Oh get this, another 1 hour wait for the actual burger, and by then I’d lost all interest.
Perhaps, the fact this place is one of the only places in the area is why it’s still open, and the amount of tourists paying £20 for a burger is probably another.
Honestly, when you’ve done the mountain just go to the burger van. I’d be happy to pay £20
If I wasn’t made to feel
Inadequate by kitchen staff. Ironic.

We had a fantastic visit to Hills for a family birthday. What a treat! The food was fantastic. Obviously sourced carefully and cooked well and quickly. And the service was really exceptional. I had pre-booked very easily online and added a note about bringing a birthday cake. A member of staff asked me discreetly and took the cake without the birthday girl seeing and then produced it again at just the right moment. Thanks to all the staff at Hills for helping make a special occasion go so perfectly. We’ll be back!

Just visited the restaurant with a group of friends and despite explaining my dietary requirements of not being able to eat cheese I was left made feeling stupid and unsatisfied. I hurried to order a chicken burger off the menu quickly (had a the list of ingredients under the option on the menu) as we were starving and had heard the food here was amazing. I also ordered the chicken fries expressing no cheese as per my requirements, which came out fine. Not only was I met with cheese oozing all over my burger, but was quickly dismissed as not reading the menu properly (see below for photo of menu) The food that came out to order was incredible just a shame that the high prices were not reflected in their customer service. I understand that the service industry is high paced and when busy mistakes can happen, however it is how these mistakes are rectified that show the true colour of a business, which given the venue only had two other tables (both of which had already been served) I find myself cascading from genuine excitement when I heard all the good reviews to a state of sheer shock having left fully underwhelmed, unsatisfied and £30 out of pocket.

Such a disappointment having had various people say go to Hills. Really nice ambience and the staff were spot on, pleasant, smiling and attentive without being intrusive, but the food was a disappointment, mulled wine chicken wings had no flavour. The buffalo and Stilton burger, whilst the meat was really nice, the unmelted 10mm think slab of Stilton was so overpowering it ruined the burger and the buffalo sauce tasted more like ordinary BBQ. Little things but made what could have been a really good burger into something quite poor.

Nice place. Good Food Really didn't enjoy the dogs in the restaurant.
Unfortunately on this day, the restaurant was being run by teenagers who tried hard but didn't have a lot of oomph in them. Waited 20 minutes to have our order taken.
I know it will upset some. but the sound of a dog barking really put me off my food.
Only had 1 beer on which was disappointing.
We turned up on time for our table and were asked to sit for 10 minutes which is fine but then 3 other tables were seated who came after us. No organisation
Just aswell the foods good but I won't be coming back
