Myself and my girlfriend decided to go out for food, and my girlfriend told me that she had booked a table at midday in the Hop In Beer & Gin restaurant, and wow was I impressed. Having recently moved to Brecon during COVID restrictions, I haven't had the opportunity to try out different food places in Brecon, but I can safely say we will be returning here. As soon as we arrived we had a very warm, friendly and safe greeting from the staff, and were taken to a table straight away (with options of where we wanted to sit). It was a very calm atmosphere, with interesting, old fashioned and quirky decor throughout. Myself and my girlfriend both ordered the Fish & Chips, and as someone who really enjoys fish and chips when I go out for a meal, I have to say this was the best I've had, with the price being very reasonable for the quality and portion we were given! My girlfriend also complimented how delicious the meal really was. She couldn't finish hers, and as a big eater myself, as much as I wanted to finish off her meal as well as mine, the portion size was perfect! Everything about our visit was positive, with the manager often coming and checking in with us and having genuine, polite conversation with us when appropriate also! As I've mentioned previously, as a young couple who don't often go out for a meal, this will not be the last time we visit this hidden gem! Thank you for a fantastic meal experience!

We visited on a Saturday night, they couldn’t fit us in for food and we looked on in envy at the delicious looking meals! We enjoyed several different Gins from an extensive collection and were very impressed with the service - even after our dog was sick! We were keen to try the fantastic looking food so booked in for Sunday lunch the next day. It was absolutely worth the wait! The beef was so perfectly cooked that it fell apart on my fork, there was a wide range of vegetables again beautifully cooked and a Yorkshire pudding that was almost as large as the plate! Throughout our visits we found the owner and his team to be very friendly, efficient and made you feel like a a visiting friend rather than a paying customer. It may be that we are accustomed to London prices, but I was surprised at how reasonable it was every time I got the bill, when food and drink is that good I usually expect a bill in the three figures! I couldn’t recommend this little gem enough, so completely unassuming on the outside and yet the owner and team have turned it into an exceptional delight.

My husband normally goes to Belgium every year to try different beers obviously that can’t happen at the moment so found this place and what a find it was!! We spoke with Paul directly to book a table and pre ordered our tapas and when we arrived he remembered us and made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff they were all so friendly and that made for a lovely atmosphere and evening. The selection of beers was amazing and well priced, my husband was like a kid in a sweet shop!! Paul was so knowledgeable about the different beers and bottles from around Europe and gave good recommendations for us to try based on our earlier choices. Although we didn’t try the gin they have over 40 of those to try. We did have tapas which were so well presented and beautifully flavoured. This place is a must for foodies and beer /gin lovers!! We wish it was our local but we enjoyed it so much we have booked a hotel to come again next month and my husband is arranging a night with his friends!! Thanks to everyone at hop in you made our last trip to Brecon a memorable one which we still talk about see you in July!!!

Our group of 10 booked for our friend's 60th birthday last night. The food was fantastic and plentiful - we especially loved the baked brie, chicken caesar, fish cake, artichokes, chorizo bites and sausages. The gins, rum and wine were fabulous too. The staff could not do enough for us - from the initial enquiry, accommodating our travel hiccups and helping us decorate the room, making our friend feel special - all with warm smiles and great humour. A real little gem of Welsh cooking and hospitality. Thank you so much.

Told there was a table available, 15 minutes later no menu or sign of any service so collected a menu from the bar staff. 15 minutes later nobody came to take the order so took menus back to the bar to place our order only to be told that if we did order then there would be "an Extraordinarily long wait for food". Over half an hour wasted!! Should have been told from the outset if they couldn't accommodate 2 people on top of the 12 or so that were already seated. No idea how to manage customer expectations, and they must be cooking on camping stoves if they can't serve 12 people or so in a reasonable time, considering the simple, limited menu. Amateurs!!!!

We ended up here by mistake, but what a happy accident. Mum, Dad and two older offspring, we turned up late and with no notice. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. We were shown to a table where we had drinks while we ordered - including an excellent IPA The food on offer was a dozen or so different tapas dishes and we ordered a good selection. Highlights included vegetarian kofta with poppadums; cheesy chorizo bites; chilli beef and whitebait. But, really, everything was tasty and looked and smelled great. There’s an ambiance about the place. Everyone we saw working there was young and enthusiastic. They looked like they all wanted this new venture to succeed. They deserve to!

This was a last minute booking for a family lunch and Hop In Beer and Gin was a pleasant surprise. This was the best of Brecon in terms of hospitality, warmth and service. We had a variety of items from the menu, including Tapas, Cod and a perfectly cooked chicken breast. Everything was 1st class. Please try the smooth gins as well...our host made some outstanding recommendations; so if you're not sure which gin to order, ask the host and I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Dont miss this experience next time you're in Brecon!

Drove to Brecon today and fancied a quick drink so popped into “The Hop In” and so glad we did! It’s a brand new craft beer and gin bar in the town centre of Brecon. It has a vast selection of fabulous Gins and come served with the perfect accompaniment of the recommended tonic. My partner had the “Black tomato” gin which was served with basil and chilies and was awesome! I had a pint of the “crush” pilsner which I’d never heard of before but again was excellent. The proprietors, Paul and Anthony were the perfect hosts and are very knowledgeable and passionate about their new venture and it shows. The only downside was stop tap was 4pm as it was a Sunday, and we could have stayed longer. Ah well, we will just go earlier next time. Well done both. Absolutely loved our first of many visits. 👍👍

OMG the best meal we've had for years. Tapas included whitebait, caesar salad, chilli beef strips, venison scotch egg, garlic creamy mushrooms. Cooked to perfection, full of flavour, absolutely delicious. The chef spoke to us about our kids allergies and intolerances and nothing was too much trouble. On a par with tapas we've had in Spain, maybe even better. The Gin and tonics complemented the meal perfectly with a huge choice of gins including Welsh gin. Recommended for sure, go there.

We chose this restaurant/bar as a good halfway meeting point with friends. The decor and furnishings are quite quirky but could do with a little refreshing in places (especially the entrance door way from the street). All the tables had fresh flowers which was a nice touch. We were shown to a table upstairs and given menus. The Menus showed you could scan a QR code and order. However, we had a few questions - recommendations on how many tapas dishes to order etc. So we waited for the waitress to return. This took some time. When she returned we ordered several tapas dishes and wine. We couldn't see any beers listed on the menu but maybe we missed them. The food arrived and was delicious and well presented. The local sausages & bacon in honey and mustard and the chicken goujons were particularly good. The garlic prawns looked a little pale but were well cooked and tasty. When we finished, we thought about ordering more drinks and coffees but there was no sign of our waitress. We waited for another 15 -20 minutes thinking someone would come to clear table or ask if we had enjoyed our meal and enquire if we wanted anything else but sadly no one came. I'm not sure if it was a staffing or training issue but the restaurant certainly wasn't busy. When we arrived we were the only customers. When we left there were only four other diners. After waiting, we had gone past the stage when we wanted to stay and left our table and went downstairs to pay. We asked for the bill which was given to us but without any enquiry as to whether we'd enjoyed our meal. In view of this we didn't feel inclined to leave a tip. We left and walked down the road and had another drink and a coffee elsewhere. In summary, the food was great. Had the service been the same we'd have left a tip, a 5 star review and they'd have made another sale of drinks and coffee's. We would visit again in case this was just a 'one off' but it's sad that we couldn't give the place the top marks it deserves.

After a walk with friends, our custom is to have a relaxed lunch in a dog-friendly pub. The local pub with a great reputation was fully booked for some weeks, but recommended the Hop Inn Beer & Gin nearby on the Watton. The narrow frontage belied a spacious interior with an upper floor having tables at front and rear and a bar downstairs. Our hostess was extremely welcoming and we were impressed by the breadth of the tapas (as in small portions of generally conventional) dishes on offer. Between us we sampled 6 of the dishes (variously between £7-£9) with each of them being judged excellent. The portions themselves were generous.

Have eaten here twice recently. Sunday lunch and Saturday evening. On both occasions the food was amazing. Sunday lunch Good selections of starters, mains and smaller dessert choices. The freshly battered cod goujons were delicious. Roast beef main was really tasty and came with a good selection of veg including cauliflower cheese. There was also roast parsnip and potatoes and home made Yorkshire pudding. The portion sizes were perfect and it’s really good value. Saturday night We pre ordered ahead for our party of four. The tapas dishes and sides were absolutely faultless. The flavours were just a sensation and the chef is clearly talented. There are a good selection of dishes to choose from and all a little quirky. There is a really good choice of vegetarian dishes and a number of fish dishes too. I just love the food and their concept. It really works. Drinks The beers choices here are top notch. They always have 4/5 on draft, 2 on cask and usually a cider. There is also o huge selection of cans and bottles including a choice of Belgian beers. There is no other selection in Brecon that comes close. There is also a substantial gin selection and some thought has clearly been put in to the recommended mixer and garnish which is nice and it always comes in a lovely glass. Service The service is excellent. Both the owners and staff can’t do enough. They are really friendly and the owners really know their beer. Our booking for Sunday lunch was last minute but they were really accommodating and fitted us in. The space is really well used too. A real gem for Breton. Keep doing what you’re doing.

We reserved a table after researching online for a dog friendly restaurant in Brecon. I would advise booking as there are not lots of tables and it is very popular it seems. We decided to eat here as we love local craft beers and gins and we were not disappointed! My husband had a couple of beers and bought some bottles to take home, which were reasonably priced and I had the black-current gin which was gorgeous. We ordered three tapas dishes and a couple of sides and we were really full! The portions were good sizes and the food was hot, fresh and delicious! We made room to share a dessert and I’m so glad we did, it was one of the best brownies we have had! The staff were helpful and friendly and made a fuss of our dog. We only wish we lived locally so we could return!

Came across this wonderful establishment whilst wandering round Brecon. We booked a table for a couple of nights forward. The owner, Paul, is a really nice hospitable guy who has only just opened this bar. A big choice of gins and mixers, plus many speciality beers, from normal strength to rocket fuel 😊. We ate tapas served by a very attentive and energetic waitress, Sophie, I think. I wish them all the very best in this venture as it deserves to be a huge success. Good luck

Good selection of draught and canned beers. Good choice of tapas also catering for veggies, though my favourite was the beef strips in peppercorn sauce .All our tapas were freshly cooked and were of decent size and reasonably priced. The staff though always busy were friendly and welcoming.
