We ventured out for a Bank Holiday weekend 'staycation' to discover the Brecon Beacons. Staying in a B & B over the road, we popped out for a bite to eat on our first night and found the food at the Clarence was cooked to perfection, tasty and reasonably priced. We had a steak on our last night, and it was sooo good! The staff were very friendly and attentive and it was good to see them observing the Covid regulations, without it making us feel hostile. Would definitely go back!

My family and I had tea here. We thought it was very friendly, had tasty food (everything was nice and hot) and we were near a toasty log fire. Another plus is that it’s dog friendly, there was no shade whatsoever! My only improvement would be homemade chips, but the standard chips with the meal were still very nice. Overall, a wonderful evening!

This is about the 5th time we have visited this Brecon Pub and Restaurant and have never been left disappointed. The staff and owner attended to all our needs (there were 19 of us for this New Years Day Family & Close friends get together). The Meals were really tasty and great value for money. This is definitely one of our favourite places and we’ll definitely be going back to expand our visit count. Thank you for looking after us so well Clarence Inn.

We have stayed at this pub numerous times over the last few years but clearly this year with the COVID situation was slightly different. I emailed Roger to find out what measures he had in place to comply with the COVID requirements and was happy with his response. On arrival it was clear that the precautions that have been put in place are extensive and effective. All tables are located to comply with 'social distancing' requirements. All staff wear face shields at all times and drinks and food can only be ordered whilst sitting and occupying a table. The bar is fully shielded and because drinks can only be ordered whilst at a table nobody stands at the bar. The large and immaculate garden has numerous tables well spaced out, each with their 'own' gazebo. The menu offers a good selection of traditional dishes. Portions are generous and offer numerous combinations of vegetables, salads, potatoes, chips, etc. Any desserts incorporating a sponge are to be recommended as whosoever makes to sponges has the ability to make the lightest sponge that we have experienced. A true delight, but be warned, the portions are generous! The B&B side of things is excellent, clean, comfortable, warm and all COVID precautions are in place.

I visited The Clarence Inn on Saturday 5th Sept 20. Upon arriving we were greeted at the door by Rodger the owner, he was most welcoming and really friendly. He was wearing a covid transparent face screen and sat our party of 4 down outlining the covid measures that were in place and the one way system. There was also a transparent screen at the end of our table to ensure safety. Our waiter was James who kindly pointed out what dishes he recommended. I ordered a Sirloin Steak medium which was cooked to perfection. The steak came with home made thick cut chips with salad, peppercorn sauce, mushroom and tomatoe. It was traditional pub grub which was hearty and wholesome and most welcoming after a day trekking in the mountains. Had I known that the Clarence was also a hotel/B&B I would of opted to stay here too. Highly recommend.

This pub was recommended to us after calling in to the farm shop for lunch as was down Brecon way viewing scenery, farm shop didn’t do meals and we were looking for Sunday lunch.the pub was easily found and lovely area right by the canal.the COVID rules on entering pub and shown to table 100%,toilets spotless, staff were lovely helpful and you could tell actually enjoyed there job nothing too much trouble, the choice was beef lamb or pork or root bake for vegetarians, when it arrived almost immediately you got very generous portion of meat delicious crackling as I had pork my husband beef, dishes of veg fantastic choice, brocli swede carrot cabbage peas boiled potato new,Yorkshire with beef, gravy plus two jugs gravy it was absolutely beautiful lunch,we then rather greedily had pudding hubby ginger pud and custard as light as a feather,I had apple blueberry crumble ice cream but the crumble was out of this world so light I think it was ginger bisc crushed then baked and put on top of fruit correct me please it was so much better than normal very filling crumble. I should imagine it was the owner came over and asked had we everything we needed, all staff very tentative, the whole visit was awesome you should all be proud of yourself for giving fantastic service in such difficult times, and the food you could not better from me and my husband from Cirencester Gloucestershire thank you so much amazing Sunday out Jean and pete

This place has it all! Fantastic welcoming team, great place and simply fabulous food. I am a very harsh critic, just see my reviews. The team that fun the Clarence are extremely welcoming and this starts when you actually book. When you arrive everyone I’d made to feel very welcoming, nothing Is to much trouble. In fact this place was so good we cancelled out visit to a competitor on the Friday and came back here for a second consecutive night. On the first night I had the sirloin steak snd Theresa had a jacket potato with cheese and bean s. The second night Theresa had the steak pie snd I had the chicken snd we both had ‘new potatoes’ simply the best home cooked food we have ever had. I eat out 5 nights s week, so I should know. Prices are extremely reasonable snd if we had come in here on the first night of out holiday we would never have gone anywhere else! Well done to the Clarence team! Hopefully we will see you all again with out little dog Aurora in the push chair! Thanks for the memory

We have visited this pub several times previously this year (in the evenings) and have always had friendly, great service so we called in for a lunchtime drink and meal recently. Well you would think we were still in the depths of lockdown this time. We hadn't booked but we were "allowed" in nevertheless and sat at a quiet table near the front door. Ordered our drinks and food which came promptly and were as good as ever. Great. However, "quiet" is the operative word here as there were only about six tables occupied at any time during our visit with many tables in this quite large pub left vacant. From where we were sitting, we observed maybe eight to ten couples or small groups coming in for food / drinks but all were turned away by the serving staff saying "Covid rules this, Covid rules that" and offering the advice that "There are plenty of other places you can go to in town". Come on guys, there was plenty of room even if you spaced everyone out to "comply with the Covid Rules". Might make us think twice about returning for the foreseeable. Seems we were lucky to get in this time.

Hi. Very sorry that you hear that you felt our pub was unwelcoming. I’m unaware of any of our staff using Covid rules as a reason for turning people away. If we do it is usually because we are either fully booked or short staffed and manage numbers to suit. So yes we sometimes turn people away when some tables appear vacant as they are either about to be filled or we have limited staff. We have no desire to welcome people in if we can’t back it up with a decent level of service. I expect your visit coincided with the time that I personally was taken ill with Covid and was isolating. Should my partner have caught it too we would not of been open at all and would not of been welcoming anyone. It would be lovely if you would return and make yourself known as I would much rather a face to face discussion and could explain how we have coped through these interesting and challenging times. I agree that Covid rules is the wrong reason for turning people away as our venue is set up to be Covid safe when it is full. I can only assume that it was an inexperienced member of staff that maybe did not know what else to say in my absence. Ask for Roger. Thanks

After a long, wet walk in the Brecon's we were recommended the Clarence as a great place for lunch. We weren't disappointed! You have to call to reserve a table but they managed to squeeze is in just before they stopped taking orders at 2.30pm. We both had the lamb tagine which was warming and just what we needed on a windy wet day. We also shared the bread and butter pud which was deliciously light. Highly recommended place to eat.

Lovely pub in the beautiful village of Breacon. We had the Black Rock Grill Ribeye steak (sourced locally); you literally get a slab of super heated stone delivered to your table that you cook you steak on to your liking; a great experience and a bit of fun. The service was fast, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

It’s taken us over 2 years to actually get here! Silly us! The food was delightful. Fresh ingredients, well cooked and plenty of it. Beautifully presented with nice touches…. Sauce for steak in its own bowl, two butter pats in another little bowl ready to pop on the new potatoes. We had starters too…. couldn’t finish the mains as the portions were so generous. The premises are really clean and toilets spotless. Charming staff… this is deffo going to be a regular haunt.

We came here for our final night's holiday in Sennybridge on a Thursday night, which isn't too far a drive from our BnB. I had called a few hours' before to make a booking, and they will able to accommodate. As we have 2 dogs with us, we asked for a table in the bar area, and they placed us in the corner, however it was next to one of the main corridors where a lot of people walk in and out, so the dogs could not quite keep out of the way, whereas we saw that other tables in the corner had 2 people and a lot more space/privacy (perhaps that is because we had booked a bit later which may have been why we had that table given to us). The patrons were absolutely lovely and one in particular gave our dogs so much love and attention that they really loved it! Staff were very matter of factly, and not as friendly. The bar was super busy, and we had to order food at the table, but go up to the bar to order drinks. So after a bit of a wait at the bar, I finally got to order our drinks (a Malbec and a Guinness), which was good. We ordered starters of Brie Wedges and Thai fish cakes, which were £7 each plate, and consisted of really small pieces of food, but it was really tasty. For our mains, I ordered the Sirloin steak, while my husband ordered the reef and beef - steak was very well cooked to our liking, and there was a good size prawn for the reef. Good and tasty quality food, with slightly expensive starters for the size. Not so good for parking or if you have dogs, as it was very busy and we were placed at a table which was a bit small for our needs.

An amazing pub serving delicious food! Two of us had three courses and drinks during our visit for an extremely reasonable price. The homemade food was fantastic value, excellent quality and taste and the portions were exceptional. Additionally, the staff were so, so friendly and accommodating and made our visit extra special. On a side note, their Covid-19 measures are of the highest standard and staff took every precaution to make us feel safe. Visit if you can!
