Anytime I have friends visiting Belfast for the first time this is a must. Might be a bit pricy but worth every penny. The decor the service the overall experience. There is nothing to dislike about the merchant. Five stars all day long

Went to the merchant specifically for a cocktail. Made an excellent Bellini and hotel itself is very old with lots of character. Walked through the dining area which was gorgeous. Would definitely recommend a trip to see the building and sample the cocktails

The building is completely stunning. Cocktail menu extensive. Unfortunately it took us a long time to get to see it. We sat down and a male waiter passed us several times without acknowledging us. He eventually came and wiped our table, again without a word. So much so that we asked if it was OK to sit there. Our drinks... More

Have visited the bar for cocktails many times over the last few years and cant help but feel sad that what was once an amazing experience is slowly being eroded by the management. What made it special were the bar men who were really enthusiastic about their job and would always suggest 'off menu' drinks tailored to your tastes. They... More

Limited, but good selection of meals Great ambience, excellent, but unobtrusive service. Enjoyed my fish pie, as did my husband. Our host ate his fish and chips with relish. The portions are not large, but more than adequate for a light lunch I will return!

At my request a group of 14 stayed in The Merchant Hotel to celebrate my birthday on 6 and 7 January and we had high expectations given its 5 star rating and the TV programme that showed the hotel in such a good way. It is with great disappointment that I say it did not live up to to those... More

Seated next door to the Great Room I can't imagine a more atmospheric venue to knock back cocktails and discuss days gone by. With the open fire and smoky smell it's a great venue BUT maybe just a touch too expensive to be justified. Still, an excellent a lot for a Dark and Stormy

Choice, choice, choice is all I can say about the cocktail menu, it was so difficult to decide and the photographs are exactly what your drink will look like. Our two kids loved the fruit cups, made them feel so special. We are a range from the menu and everything was fantastic, delicious soups, salads and fish dishes. The whole... More
