About
The restaurant has been open since March 1999 and customers are still flocking to sample the high-quality food and enjoy the bright, attractive surroundings. We cater for large parties and private functions. Booking is recommended and our staff will be on hand to offer advice and first class service. The restaurant also offers a full take-away service, not to mention home delivery, so that you can enjoy the fantastic food in the comfort of your own home. We deliver throughout Dundee and the outlying areas. However, dining in the restaurant means you can admire the décor designed especially by Alan Beaton. It is unlike any Indian restaurants you will have visited. Come and enjoy traditional Indian food in our beautiful new surroundings. Broughty Ferry is easily accessible, only 10 minutes from Dundee and offers a perfect evening out. With many establishments on the doorstep you never have too far to go, either for a quiet drink or to enjoy the lively atmosphere in one of the many bars.

Because of the times in which we find ourselves ,an oasis is BOMBAY JOE,S.
The wife and I decided that an Indian would fit the bill, and they certainly did this with one of their set meals (takeaway) ,and at very competitive prices!!
Beautiful tasty curry, and in 20 minutes! My friends and relatives will be getting the NOD.
Next time we have to dine-out.

I’ve posted a couple of reviews in the past, I’ve enjoyed Indian food all of my life and I have to say that this is by far THE best for Indian food. For any visitors to this area I’d say try this restaurant, for people living in this area if you haven’t tried it already then do so and I’ve no doubt you’ll become a regular. During this lockdown period I’ve ordered take away food on three occasions from Bombay Joes and it is delivered promptly, although on one occasion ( I suspect due to the day and time of day that I ordered) I had to wait for an hour and a half, they did tell me when I ordered it, but it proves my point, it is so popular. Just finished another fantastic meal.

We have been enjoying the carry outs from Bombay Joe’s for years. We rarely go anywhere else. The restaurant has gone through various changes and personal losses over the years and the quality has changed accordingly, but never enough that we would go anywhere else.
This weekend we ordered chicken mazedar, tikka masala and a tikka kebab (along with various starter dishes). We all agreed that these dishes were some of the best we have had from Bombay Joe’s to the extent that I considered phoning to let them know. However, I opted to voice my (and my family’s) appreciation and compliments on Trip Advisor so others would also benefit from this review.
Thanks again to Bombay Joes for a wonderful meal.

First Bombay Joe takeaway for a while as we’ve lived in England for a number of years. This was one of our favourites before we moved so we had to try again. Sadly it was very disappointing. The prawns used in my dish were barely visible in the sauce and resembled the shrimp normally used in potted shrimp only tough & tasteless. The food isn’t cheap and I would have expected the same standard & quality as we experienced in the past.Going on our most recent meal , I would not recommend

Excellent food - felt a bit 80’s design.
A small but kinda bright and shiny restaurant. Seems a favourite of locals but close to Dundee and worth the ridiculously cheap train fare (£1.70?) to get there.
A big menu, which is a little off-putting, but I was very happy with the food ordered.
Poppadoms were generous as well as the chutney and spiced onions, so much so I instantly regretted ordering starters. But those too were great (tasty bannister).
The mains were huge. Many of the standard curries and many specials. Possibly too much choice...not always a good thing.
My dhansak was good but not excellent...needed more spice/heat. Rice was good and garlic naan excellent..
Wine was a little overpriced for the quality on offer but they’ve got to make some profit.

This seems to be a very busy and popular restaurant in Broughty Ferry which also does a lot of take away meals. We shared a mixed starter that was really good but then waited for well over an hour watching later tables being served. No one approached to explain the wait but it looked like take away trade was very busy. The food when it arrived was excellent with good quantities that after such a long wait were appreciated. The prices are slightly on the high side and the bill was hard to fathom as a scribbled order. Overall it was a pleasant night apart for the long wait.

The delicious smells of fresh spices and herbs hit us before even getting through the door! Having been greeted warmly and led into a colourful and sparkling interior we were presented with an extensive and detailed menu (mouth-wateringly inspired). The food is freshly cooked to order and chef has no problem adjusting the recipe to suit your taste; lovely for those of us who prefer to hold off on the green chillis! Our food was perfect in every way. Even the sides were unique. No boring standard boiled rice here! The atmosphere was warm, lively and inviting. Be advised to book ahead though. For a quiet Monday night out of school holidays it was very busy. Not surprisingly!

Went to Bombay Joe’s last night for the high tea. Absolute value for money. We took our Son as he was back from Edinburgh Napier University.
The high tea consists of a starter each, a main course with rice and a dessert or coffee. Naan bread comes as an extra. We ordered a peshwari naan a garlic naan and a chapati. Every one on them were cooked to perfection. So crispy and packed with flavour.
I decided on the chicken Karachi for main and the Tempura king prawns for starters. The whole meal was fantastic. There was so much I couldn’t eat it so that boxed it up for me to take the rest home. It’s quite a spicy dish but the flavours were lovely.
My Husband and Son decided on the veg pakora for starters and the Chicken Madras for main. My husband had the coffee to finish off with. I couldn’t eat or drink anything else as I was so full so they doubled up on my Sons ice cream.
The service was fantastic, just a nice period of time between each course and served with a smile. The house white wine is very nice too. Each one has been chosen by the owner himself.
We usually get our takeaway from Bombay Joe’s and I’ve never had a curry that I’ve not liked. It’s well worth every penny.
I would wholly recommend this restaurant for both sit in and takeaway. You won’t be disappointed.

Have had 2 carry outs here during the coronavirus lockdown. I gave them a chance to see if our poor first meal was a one-off. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The food was expensive and bland and this is a shame because it used to be a good restaurant. A pricey carry out should be a treat but these weren't. I'm not sure if it's just because of the situation we are in just now and they are under pressure but I feel they need to look at the quality of the food. I wasn't going to write a review but a friend last night said exactly the same thing so thought I really should comment. (They got a partial refund, which I should have asked for) There are better takeaways in Broughty Ferry and Monifieth that are now open again.

Visited last night with friends to celebrate my 50th Birthday. My friends had been in early to decorate the table and it was topped off with the staff bringing out a birthday cake which had been made by one of my friends. The food was great and service too and I was even given a free bottle of wine to take away. Love this place and will most definitely be back. Thanks to my besties for a great night.

Decided to go for a date night with my husband and seen the good reviews for this restaurant.
Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. We would go as far to say this meal was the worse we have ever had. The food is extremely expensive for the quality and quality you get. £7 for onion bhaji that was exactly like the one you get from Tesco. £15.95 for a chicken passanda... this curry was the worse thing I've ever tasted. It was like eating warm cream. No seasoning or flavour. Just warm cream. The chicken was terrible too. I had to add mango chutney to it to make it edible enough to have a few mouthfuls.
Not once were we asked how our food was. In fact the waiter was sat behind the bar alot. My husband in the end got up to ask for him to bring the bill and stood at the bar looking at the waiter and the waiter remained there texting on his mobile, and didn't even look up. In the end my husband abruptly said can you bring the bill. The waiter came over and took the plates and still didn't ask if everything was alright. So we got up and paid. After we paid my husband said 'are you not once going to ask how everything was' and explained that it was the worse meal and we would never return and also said about the service not being much better and about how the waiter was too busy texting. The waiter said 'it's just our delivery drivers as we also do takeaways that's why I am on the phone'. He did apologise and say sorry for the food and the service as we were leaving but it didn't repair the damage. Almost £70 our of pocket on an overpriced inedible meal. Absolutely awful experience.

Our first visit to Bombay joes and certainly wouldn’t be our last. The staff were so accommodating from the point of entry we were greeted with a warm welcome.
We ordered popadoms, fish pakora and seikh kebabs as starters which were just amazing.
For mains we had butter chicken, masala fries and garlic naan (the garlic naan is by far the best naan I have ever had).
Would recommend bombays joes to anyone.
Very family friendly, clean and accessible.

We had a fantastic meal here. Service was friendly and fast and our food was wonderful. The menu offers dishes I've never seen anywhere else - we just had to try the haggis pakora and were delighted we had - and portions are so generous that we staggered home with a large doggy bag. The chicken thali was a thing of beauty (you can even choose your spice level) and the spiced onion naan bread a revelation. We only wish we had a Bombay Joe's on our doorstep.

Fantastic food! Omg actually struggled to stop eating. Garlic naan was one of the best we’ve ever had. Tikka masala was full of flavour without being cream heavy! Madras was hot as it should be but so full of flavour the heat didn’t matter if you enjoy a hot curry! Service was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble! 100% will return, easily one of the best curry houses we’ve visited! 😁😁
