We stopped by and ordered Indian food as takeaway (so I can't comment on the Thai part of the menu). We were told it would take 20 minutes, so we went for a walk and came back as time got near. The timing was perfect,...More

When we found Shamoli, it was an unexpected treasure. It is upstairs from street level and quieter and cleaner than most street level restaurants. We were seated at a lovely table by large open windows. With a great view of the city outside, we feasted...More

Visited the place in the early evening in July to get some snacks and simple tea. The food came in shambles with cutleries missing and the attending person refused to offer tea claiming that they had the item in the menu as Indian Tea (British...More

My Thai/Scottish daughter was pleasantly surprised at the authenticity of the taste and standard of her Thai meal. My Indian meal, chicken bhuna, was to the standard I've come to expect from top class Indian restaurants in Scotland. many thanks

We cannot complain about the food - it was really delicious! However, the waiting time was completely unacceptable and to be honest, was quite embarrassing. While we were not in any rush, it was noticeably bad and people around about (mostly tourists) were clearly becoming...More

What a pleasant surprise to find Shamoli, a beautifully appointed Indian and Thai restaurant on the Royal Mile. Ticked in amongst the whisky bars and American wannabe restaurants, we found Shamoli. You need to step inside the passageway and up a flight of stairs, and...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
