Food was excellent. We have ordered haggis tower (layers of mash potatoes, haggis and mashed turnip) and fish and chips. Good sized portions and very tasty. They didn’t have kids menu, but chef made a smaller portion of fish and chips for our son. The...More

We wandered in out of the cold, blustery weather, and were delighted to soak up the warmth and friendly atmosphere of the Tolbooth Tavern. The barman was happy to answer our ''touristy'' questions about the ghostly activity in the pub, and is a lovely gentleman....More

The Tollbooth Tavern is situated near Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh's old town. The decor is what you would expect in this area. The bar staff are very friendly. Drinks are reasonably priced. There is a pub quiz every Sunday which is very enjoyable. Never tried...More

Had lunch here for the second time and have the same impression as the first. It is a very nice, cozy place to have a drink - attractive bar area in a lovely old building. But the food is average at best. The bangers and...More

Fantastic meal in one of the most historic buildings in Edinburgh. Huge tasty fish and chips, and the Macaroni Cheese was simply superb, decent sized portions. Service was spot on and the prices were very reasonable.

Excellent evening meal in a convenient location down the Royal Mile. They serve great salads and amazing burgers along with the standard pub fare. We had great service from Leanne in particular and also Mairi.

I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I went in for dinner and drinks and the food was good and the drinks were good. We ordered the haggis and black pudding burger (can't remember what it's called) and the steak and ale...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Description
Est 1820 Edinburgh's second oldest pub rests in the building built in 1590 that was once used as a Police cell, prison and courthouse, it has seen the imprisonment of the covenanters, daring escapes, and warlocks exorcised Now a great pub, doing amazing Scottish food, from Haggis, (we breed our own) to traditional Fish and Chips. All can be washed down with some of the Caledonian Brewery's famous ales, or a fine wee dram of malt whisky.
