Nothing fancy here, basic pub meal in a historic setting. However the food was well prepared and there was lots of it at a reasonable price point. Service was bit slow and harried, but friendly. Would recommend a try.

The place has lots of history, and a great atmosphere, along with convenient location on the east end of the Royal Mile.

We stumbled across this gem of a Pub and thought we would give it a go. Both ladies at the bar were very friendly and the haggis and fish n chips were excellent. Great staff , fab food. 👍

Stumbled in here for a pint after a strenuous hike around Arthur's Seat. Ended up staying for lunch--and another pint. Amazing salmon starter plate. Warlock pie is rich & savory, meat tender.

We enjoyed our lunch during a busy shopping and sightseeing day. It was a bit off-hours so was not busy. The place is charming, service was friendly and food was well priced and tasty. I had a generous sized panini with tortilla chips and a...More

Well situated on the Royal Mile, a decent pub serving generous portions of typical pub food. I had fish and chips and was a bit taken aback by the size of the fish! Good service. Pub area on ground level with eating area just beyond...More

We popped in for lunch after hiking Arthur's Seat. The waitress recommended the Tolbooth Haggis Tower. It was a generous serving of haggis, tatties and neeps that would have been plenty for two. My wife had the fish n chips. Both were good . The...More

Frankly disappointing when you enter. High turnover of people coming and going as it's not great. Very annoying Karaoke singer who clearly likes the sound of his own voice and puts the volume up when he is singing. Noise level too high to have a...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Est 1820 Edinburgh's second oldest pub rests in the building built in 1590 that was once used as a Police cell, prison and courthouse, it has seen the imprisonment of the covenanters, daring escapes, and warlocks exorcised Now a great pub, doing amazing Scottish food, from Haggis, (we breed our own) to traditional Fish and Chips. All can be washed down with some of the Caledonian Brewery's famous ales, or a fine wee dram of malt whisky.
