We came here for my 30th Birthday meal, and what an enjoyable meal it was too! The mushroom soup that I had for my starter was lovely as was the T-Bone steak that I had for my main. The BBQ sauce was delicious too. The staff were very friendly and polite. The restaurant and toilets were very clean. Could not... More

As the three of us work in the motortrade we decided to celebrate the fact that we had despatched another March with a Steak! McKirdy's is ideally suited to us as it is very central fit buses and trains with Haymarket Station a few minutes walk away. We ordered 2x "selection of our award winning pork sausages, served with a... More

We visited Edinburgh during Six Nations weekend and were looking for a nice steak place on a busy Friday night. After a quick search, we booked McKirdy's based on the numerous great reviews. And McKirdy's didn't disappoint. The steak was delicious, the mushroom sauce fantastic! The place itself is very simple and homely, exactly what we were looking. Our waiter... More

I was vegetarian for 10 years and hadn't had a proper 'steak' steak until I visited McKirdy's. It was a damn good steak.

Enjoyed an excellent evening at this central location. Wide ranging menu that suits all tastes and very friendly staff. Cost very reasonable for the portion size and quality of food. Recommend a vist but suggest booking to guarantee a table.

After looking on here for an idea of which steakhouse to visit, this got good reviews and headed along. I must admit, we couldn't fault any of our food at al, with the steak itself being exceptional - I liked being asked if I wanted it chargrilled or pan fried. I had the homemade cheesecake for dessert and again, it... More

Five of us had dinner there, it's a small place and we were seated in a small room off the entrance. The others had various meats including a T bone steak, rib eye steak, sirloin and chicken. They enjoyed them as well as their starters which were varied and included sausages, pork ribs, mushrooms and garlic cheesy bread. I had a... More

One of the nicest meals I have had in a long time. Found the restaurant by accident whilst looking for somewhere to eat on our arrival in Edinburgh. The staff were friendly and found us a table very quickly, even though they were very busy. Service was great, our waiter was precise when taking our orders and checked on us... More

Great welcome. Surroundings are plain but fine - you're there for the food. McKirdy's has been a butcher in Edinburgh and opened their own steakhouse back in the 90s. Steaks were lovely; both char-grilled but lovely and tender. One MR and one M, both cooked perfectly and nicely presented with a rocket and (really tasty) tomato salad. Waiter knowledgeable and... Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
