Went recently before going to a show at the festival theatre. We thought it might be busy so booked a table but there was only one other couple in the restaurant. We were given the two course dinner menu along with the a la carte options which we opted for. It was only £3 per head extra. My wife opted... More

Some of the reviews made us a little sceptical on route, the deco was old looking and we had the restaurant to ourselves. However the place defiantly didn't disappoint, although we had a groupon voucher this didn't restrict our choices on the menu.. the menu wasn't huge but the food was yum! The guy serving was nice, polite and made... More

I have been to this restaurant a few times over the years but this time it was slightly different. During August this restaurant plays host to the faulty towers dining experience. Great alternative to the usual comedy shows that are here in abundance during the Edinburgh fringe festival. Actors perform round about you, servicing and entertaining. You actually feel like... We booked a meal here, based on the fact that their website stated that they did 2 courses for £12.90 and 3 courses for £15.90. Arrived and were given menus, just a la carte, no stated offer.I asked where it was, oh we don't do that during the Festival, when I questioned their web site content, they said they'd had... More

Firstly this isnt a review of Faulty Towers.. that was amazing and will be reviewed elsewhere. The food quality here was expected to be a little lower quality because of the mass catering element but this was something else. It was extremely salty, and the three courses were veggie soup (which seemed tinned but was quite nice) and then chicken... More

For the money they charged for the actual food and performance, there is simply one word. Rubbish. They charge over £50 per head and cramp as many people as they can in a very tight areas that can hardly move and then serve you the worse food ever. My window cleaners no longer combs a ladder because it is too... More

We went here as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Fawlty Towers experience having paid £50. We have been to this restaurant on many occasions so knew what to expect in terms of food and quality, which I have to say is generally very good value and good quality, particularly for a 3 course meal for around £20. On this occasion... More

Went as part of the Faulty Towers 'Dining' experience which was given as a gift to us. Fifty quid per head for THAT!!! Cant fault Basil, Sybil and Manuel - in their acting spiel. However if I was Sybil, I'd be embarrassed to serve anyone the calibre of food that we got. Rock hard, overcooked roast beef. Lentil soup from... More

We got to test this restaurant during the Fringe dinner show called "Faulty towers dinning experience". Although not every guest on our table thought the same, we were not happy about the food quality. We don't know how much it regularly costs, but it tasted very cheap. The vegetable soup was just ok, the roast very loveless soaken in a... More

My husband and I went for a meal-show experience, as part of the fringe, faulty Towers. The show was good but the meal was inedible. Very disappointed.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
