There is nothing wrong in being a pub, and there's nothing wrong in aiming at above-average pub cooking. And the food was okay, and I certainly liked my soup. But why all the fuss, the soup served as a tiny blob in a huge black...More

We went for an early lunch before we headed off to watch Scotland v New Zealand at Murrayfield. A great selection of starters off the set lunch menu, followed by really good main courses. My favourite was Vension Haggis wrapped in smoked bacon. A very...More

Just my type of place. Welcome, atmosphere, food and wine were all just perfect. Both my Asparagus starter and Hake main were a delight. Portion sizes were big enough but not too big so room could be left for dessert. Honestly this was one of...More

We visited The Magnum Restaurant & Bar during our first evening in Edinburgh. The restraurant was easy to find, on the corner of Albany Street and Dublin Street. Food was tasty and well portioned and service was professional and courteous throughout!

Living locally in the magnificent New Town of Edinburgh with the Magnum quite literally at the top of our street it would be remiss not to be a regular customer and equally remiss not to give Chris and his wonderful team a huge boost to...More

Having known the Magnum over several years, we often pop in for a drink. This evening was one such occasion. We were not made to feel welcome. We asked simply about a cocktail menu and it was made very clear that no such thing existed...More

Dear PHandLaura, I would like to start with an apology that the service you received on this particular trip to The Magnum was not as you have grown to expect form us and was not to the level we strive to achieve. We have recently...More

Well where do I start...what an amazing experience! From being served instantly from walking in we received impeccable service. Nothing was any hassle from the staff who was under pressure of serving a busy restaurant/bar. The menu choice was great, highly recommend the venison which...More

We ate at some top of the line restaurants with top of the line prices; the food here was comparable but at reasonable prices. We ended up going back for a second night. Some good wines on list at good prices. The venison was great...More

Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to
malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton
have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a
mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village
found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything
but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street;
even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and
art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The

Description
For great food and wine and an old-fashioned good time, you can't go wrong with this delightful and traditional restaurant in Albany Street, Edinburgh. As you enter the dark, seductive dining room – filled with candles and tall palms – it will be a case of love at first sight and we guarantee you'll want to curl up in a corner and stay forever. The cosmopolitan crowd love the cosy, comfortable vibe, and we love the walls decorated with whisky-inspired poetry from a local writer. Signature dishes at The Magnum Restaurant include the rib-eye steak served with pink fir fries; the venison burger with chips cooked in delicious, salty beef dripping; and the tempura Peterhead haddock with lemon tartare and a green pea puree.
