I visit here quite often as I work nearby and it's great for a quick drink and cake. Really friendly service, especially from who I think might be the owner or owner's wife (?). What's even better than the service is the cakes! They are all home-made and amazing. The carrot cake is devine but strangely enough, their gluten-free options... More

Shabby chic is the style here and it works just fine. The food is good and appears to be an attempt at home/local made with vegetarian and healthy options. We visited for breakfast and the menu was well suited for that (shame the pancakes were off the menu the day we visited but the bagels were excellent - large, not... More

Lovely little cafe that served piping hot breakfast on nice hot plates (a must for a good hot breakfast). We had various choices of breakfast and they were very accommodating as some of our choices deviated from the menu. The staff were very friendly and over all a good experience.

What a delightful little gem of a café, lovely atmosphere, classy and original decor, food is excellent (brilliant breakfast, the best panini around, very generous portions of jacket potatoes and salads, top quality ingredients). Highly recommended.

Needed sustenance after the rugby match. Ordered the soup, home made spicy lentil (not sure what it was called) with a great yoghurt dressing. Great big chunks of olive bread came with it. Simply scrumptious!

I regularly visit this cafe as it is close to home and also serves what I think is the best veggie breakfast in Edinburgh out of all that I have tried. You get a generous helping of cherry tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, a potato scone, avocado, a fried egg, some chunky bread and my favourite part, some lovely veggie haggis. The... More

I used to eat at this nice place when I lived in Edinburgh (up to December 2014). The full Scottish breakfast is awesome, I am looking forward to eating it again. There is also a wide range of sweet options, but I recommend trying the typical breakfast (with haggis). The place itself is lovely and relaxing, with nice furniture.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
