As a local barman myself I truly appreciate the level of care and quality gone into this place. Intimate yet fun, the personality of the owners infects the place (their inventive visual stamp is in every nook and crannie, piece of signage, glass served) and the service is subtle but effective. The high bar all locals should be held up... More

Years ago we had a university gathering here and we hired out the area downstairs. They set up Giant Jenga also which was great fun. Do you still have this?

Came in here for a couple of drinks before heading to the theatre. Quite a nice setting upstairs with more room downstairs which looked like larger groups could hire out/reserve. They do food but had already booked a place so can't comment.

Friendly and cosy. Quick and helpful service. Music was playing but not intrusively, overall good atmosphere.

We ate here on consecutive evenings. It's a small intimate Bar serving good food from a limited menu. It's run by three brothers who are very friendly and attentive.

Called in for a few pints and to watch the Olympics late at night during our trip to the Fringe. Good prices and open late (We stayed until 3am one night) and as an added bonus, for us at least, it was right over the road from our accomodation. Would recommend :)

We popped in for a drink and a snack on our way home and enjoyed it. They had a menu with hot food going until 11pm and we had a drink and sat at the bar. The bartender was kept very busy as people kept coming in and he kept up with the demands! They have a selection of board... More

We popped in for a drink and snack before an afternoon performance at the theatre - nearby. Friendly service, good food freshly prepared and good value. Well done!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
