Always on the look out for a top Indian restaurant and this place really is. The food quality is excellent and all tastes so fresh. A small menu but enough choice and many dishes iv not seen served in many other restaurants so that was great. If you want authentic food a must try. Its BYOB and cash only.

Visited on a last minute night away. It's all a bit of a surprise to the waiters that people want to come in, sit down and eat. So much so that that there was food on the floor, dust on the dado rails and a table with a slope. They also just kept bringing food without removing the previous courses... More

We were 17 people dining at Tanjores on a saturday evening. Nice and spicy food, butTHEY DO NOT ACCEPT ANY CREDIT CARDS!! Quite annoying, ' cause a lot of us didn't have any cash. So remember cash when you go to Tanjore!

This was a treat. Set in the Newington area there is no shortage of good Indian restaurants so to survive you have to provide great food at good prices and have something a little bit different. Tanjore is that place. It's BYOB but they have no corkage, that's a plus. The soft drinks they serve are excellent so no need... More

We have tried pretty much every Indian restaurant in Edinburgh (and all of the restaurants rated highly on Tripadvisor) and this is one of the best. The owner is motivated by her love for South Indian food and started the place because she couldn't find anything as good anywhere else. We have tried around half the menu on a number... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
