Everything is great here, from starters to mains. Try the soft shell sushi, the sirloin, and the dumplings.

Kanpai Sushi is a weekly occurrence when in Edinburgh. Last visit was with large group of friends. Best sushi and service, in town.

It was quite a busy Wednesday night and we hadn't booked a table beforehand. The hostess offered us bar seats as they didn't have free tables, however when we decided not to take them and leave, she somehow found a table for us. We ordered...More

A friend recommended Kanpai to us saying it is the best sushi in Edinburgh. She was more than correct! Every dish we got was, as my title says, exceptional! The flavour combinations and the freshness of the seafood and chicken was just amazing. From the...More

I took my Japanese food loving partner here for her 30th birthday. We have both had Japanese food at a few places, but she has been to a lot more than I have, so was hoping it would live up to expectation. In a nutshell...More

In short = visually appealing complex dishes, which try to compensate for low quality fish by adding unnecessary details & horrible bubbly. Cooked dishes should be safer to eat, but don't ask for Sashimi. The long story= Both myself and my partner are not very...More

Had dinner there with my partner and, for a few pieces of sushi (extremely small), we have paid £81. We were there in the summer and didn't pay anything like these ridiculous prices, so clearly they've just puy the prices up, taking it to a...More

Visited this place as it was recommended by a friend. I thought the food was quite good with a satisfactory service to match!

West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in
industrial Britain had their most desirable
neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes.
Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest
citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind
grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel
crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and
sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along

As far as I recall I don't think they do offer an omakase option. My instinct is they are more keen to offer the 'standard' type of service rather than this.
