We googled best tasting menus in Edinburgh and this was one of the recommendations. It's quite a small restaurant with only about room for 20 people or so but I don't think it took anything away from the experience - yes you could hear other tables but it wasn't loud and it added to the coziness of the place. Staff... More

Visited Purslane today(7/12/16)for lunch with my wife. I had the scallops with crispy Parma ham and celeriac puree which was delicious, seasoned perfectly...bouillabaisse for main course was fantastic and the chocolate dessert with milk ice cream finished off a really excellent meal. Service was also absolutely spot on. Will definitely be back.

This was the first time I used trip advisor ratings for a restaurant. We were celebrating 40 years together so wanted something special. TBH-we'd tried to book elsewhere but there was no availability. Bit disappointed initially as we were a bit overdressed and surroundings weren't exactly what we'd hoped. However, we had a fantastic meal and great service. Tried the... More

This is such a great find in Edinburgh. We had the seven course taster menu and I love every single minute. It was romantic and felt like such a special night for a really reasonable price!

Lived local until two years ago but was the first place we thought of good no when in town on our wedding anniversary. Food is always outstanding and if you go for the wine pairings they are fantastic

This was our fourth visit to Purslane, the food is outstanding, we couldn't fault the tasting menu with wine. The service matched the quality of the food. We can't recommend it enough. This is the best food in Edinburgh, forget the attraction of a Michelin star go to Purslane, the food is the same quality as those with a star,... More

I recently went here for dinner for he first time. It was a Tuesday evening however the restaurant was still busy and had a good atmosphere. The waiter was extremely friendly and personable. The food was fantastic although small portions and I would definitely return. On the pricey side. Excellent for a special occasion.

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
