It's tiny and as a group of 6 we were lucky the one big table was vacated just after we arrived. A tray of fabulous looking (& tasting) cheese scones appeared. We were offered each of the soups to try. Nothing too much trouble for the lady and gentleman running the café. Delicious panini, scones, soup and sandwiches enjoyed by... More

Think the title gives it away. My girlfriend and I went into this establishment hoping that we would be able to get a sandwich to satisfy our hunger. My girlfriend requested a simple mozzarella and ham panini. To our surprise the owner said that he didn't have any mozzarella, he then told us that he didn't have any bread to... More

For us, "Fresh" means Artisan bread , baked that morning, chicken breast roasted by us , also that morning. All items on the shelf are prepared that day in our own kitchen, with pride. Perhaps your preferences might be better suited at one of the corporate fast-food sandwich bars. As for being "fleeced" , for two 20 cm artisan panini'... More

A small friendly cafe/ sandwich shop. Soups home made and delicious. If you are on the way to visiting the palace worth a stop here for coffee.

This little eatery is a little trek east along the royal mile, but if you've got any reservations about making the journey lay them to rest immediately. Drinks, food and staff all receive high marks. Highly recommended

I absolutely love the Sugarhouse! My friend and I stopped in a cold day to warm up with a cup of coffee and we absolutely loved it here. We both had great service and amazing lattes. On our way out, we decided to split one of their desserts and I suggest you do too! Not too sure what it was... More

So I came here one morning, hungry for a morning roll and thankfully they had enough for doubler! I had the Bacon and Lorne Beef Sausage roll with some amazing hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows! Absolutely fantastic, definitely recommend since their portions are so great and I left with a full stomach :)

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
