Stopped here to warm up after a morning in the wind and rain. Barman was really friendly and asked what beer we liked and recommended a great one. The tomato, marscapone and Chipotle soup was one of the best I've tasted and the bread with it was really fresh. We ordered a portion of chips which were good too. Great... More

We dropped in while passing and got a really warm welcome, excellent advice on a good pint of beer, and a really good bowl of soup. Outstanding service and outstanding food.

Yesterday myself and 3 friends stopped in for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised with the lunches we all had. I tucked into a chicken breast burger and chips with a side dish of onion rings. My friends had beef burger chicken burger and cheesy macaroni and chips. We all really enjoyed all the food oh not forgetting a... More

We just popped in for a pint of ale and some fish&chips. And both were excellent. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and let me sample ales before making a decision.

I just popped in to this pub for a quick pint, one Sunday night back on in November. It's a traditional Edinburgh pub, nice atmosphere, with a good selection of drinks, it's a mixture of locals and tourists, the barmaid was fantastic, very friendly and was happy to chat with me, she was also very knowledgeable about the huge selection... A pleasant Scottish pub brought so much fun in a recent stay in Edinburgh. We were served by a pleasant person who made us laugh and was so helpful i requested her name. A lovely lady by the name of Danielle Seymour made a quick pub lunch into a fun experience! Thanks you!

I go every Monday that I am in Edinburgh after 5 pm you can't beat the pizza special, only £1 for a cheese and Tomato sauce pizza with purchase of a beverage. Toppings are extra. Friendly staff and good atmosphere make it a must see on a Monday or any other day of the week.

Came here with friends to enjoy the Monday night pizza to be told there was no pizza left... All they had left was chips and onion rings at full £3.50 price, which when we explained we were disappointed, little apology was given, even felt like we were the bad guys for wanting the offer! This was only at about 7pm!

Saw reviews and promise of a range of rums online. Husbands a bit of a rum connoisseur so made a point of visiting on his birthday. Limited range of rum and girl behind bar not too knowledgeable or to be honest interested in finding a rum to try. Bit grubby and lacked atmosphere. Online also advised cocktails- this is limited... Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
