Meet up with friends and had a great meal. The restaurant is small, we were asked to return in 15 mins as out table wasn't ready and there was no where to have drinks. Not sure if this is just me but tapas in Edinburgh is becoming overpriced for average food. Especially when I know I can pay less for... More

Seemed really authentic and a great selection of dishes, I particularly enjoyed the octopus with potatoes and calamari. In fact everything was good!

Fancied some tapas on our recent trip to Edinburgh and gave Lasal a try. 10 minutes at our seat before anyone asked us if we'd like some drinks - we were the only two customers in the restaurant!! In fairness the red wine was really nice after the wait. Ordered a few dishes which were in or around the £6... More

This is not somewhere you would stumble on by accident but it is well worth seeking out. We visited on. Friday night and whilst busy the service was excellent and very friendly. The choice of tapas is extensive, many of the dishes are also available in larger portions as well as a range of paella being available. We found all... More

Really enjoyed my visit here. Family run with super friendly staff and great atmosphere. High points were the gambas pil pil and the tarte de la abuela. The only criticisms are that the sauce for the albondigas was a little bland in my opinion and that the albondigas and chorizo are both served with patatas fritas, with this in mind... More

Spent two hours here with a group of 14 friends, the staff were so accommodating to our big group in their small restaurant. It's a beautiful homely, tapas restaurant with a very quaint and calm atmosphere, time stands still here momentarily so have a glass of red and relax. The food was beautiful, served with care and commitment....chorizo, abonidagas, black... More

La Sal is in a bit of a back street on Edinburgh's South Side and looks rather unprepossessing from the outside (and even inside) but don't let that deter you. Having eaten in many tapas places around Spain, the dishes served here compare really well to the best I've had in Madrid etc. Fresh ingredients and all the favourites you'd... More

This didn't start well as we seemed to be an over sight despite having booked ages before. We ended up plonked on a hastily prepared table and it really didn't fell at all special. If it hadn't been festival, with the limited prospect of finding something decent, we probably would have walked. The food though was a different story and... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
